Simon Buckley is an interesting one. He is certainly cheap and capable of scoring well, but I'm not sure he is in Collingwood's best 22.

Buckley is good at winning the ball, but not great at getting it to a teammate. Monitor his NAB cup form closely.

Great article Ben. I have definitely been one to fall in this trap from seasons passed. However, depending on their pricetag, I don't mind having the odd "cheap journeyman" trying to resurrect his career at another club, purely to use him as bench cover only though. Having Zac Dawson on my pine last year proved a master-stoke for me as the kid ended up playing 20 games and avg around 50 but was rookie priced and it meant I didn't have to agonise about relying on spuds like Petrenko when one of my other defenders didn't come up... this is why I'm hoping guys like Matt Maguire can be used to similar effect this year considering Vossy gives him consistent games. But yes, I definitely wouldn't go near any of the guys mentioned for any other reason.. The only guy that sparks my interest at the moment that would fall into this category is Simon Buckley. What are you thoughts?..

Jesse w may be back playing Footy by mid year, so he is a no. Ladson had issues with BOTH his knees last year and is still not is full training and waters is under a similar injury cloud... I'm looking at Kennelly, broadbent and Henderson- none with injury concerns, and all with great amount of improvement in them! It is soooo hard to avoid these players who seem like bargains, but it's not always worth the risk... I spent about five hours today doing research for Footy tragic, and looked very very closely at those players u mentioned and I have decided not to pursue any of them unless they prove me wrong in the nab cup

Nice to hear from you Cecil.

We always love getting new dreamteamers commenting on our site.

I'd steer well clear of all those players you mentioned due to serious injury concerns over all of them.

While players like Hunt, Ladson and Waters are all very capable AFL players, all three are coming from a long way back due to injuries.

Don't underestimate the importance of durability, the 8th wonder of the world.

how about some guys a little bit more expensive, i'm thinking of guys like Josh Hunt, Rick Ladson, Jesse Smith, Austin Wonnamirri (no idea how to spell that), Beau Waters etc. All of these guys seem like safer options, particularly Ladson & Hunt, but is it worth paying $200+ for someone with an injury cloud?
