The kid is good but very raw. Due to his body shape and size, it would be hard for him to permanently hold down a key position, especially as the sole focus up forward. I see him more as a very tall forward pocket...

This week i am expecting to see McEvoy's inclusion (this will allow him and Gardiner to rotate through CHF) and one of Jack Steven, Rhys Stanley or Raph Clarke. Steven was BOG for Sandy on the weekend, but it was only his first game back from injury. I feel that he too will be a star one day! He is only 19!

Stanley could slot in nicely, but i feel that Ross would prefer to play senior players as gap-fillers than blood the kids. His goal is for a premiership, not a rising star... That is not to say we wont see any Saint debuts this year (i expect we will see all of Stanley, Heyne and Lynch at some point!), but it wont be a priority. Steven is probably the most likely candidate to cement a spot on a HFF.

If Gwilt keeps going up in value til R10 and loses his spot/whatever he should be a high enough value to almost straight swap to a premium. Very interesting. Thought Stanley would get a gig with Kosi out... will he now Riewoldt is out? good time to blood the kid. he will be a gun

Yeah - as a Saints fan, i have been an on-again off-again fan/sceptic of Gwilt's ever since his first game. He was initially plucked from absolute obscurity, so he was always going to take a while to come good.
The news of Sam Fisher moving to CHF (although i reckon he will still spend stints in the backline) will be great for Gwilt. Gwilt already proved in the first two weeks that he can cover Fisher's role very well. He has finally learnt how to use his big body to his advantage (has had some private training from Archer!) and his confidence really looks to be going up, meaning his teammates are using him more and more when rebounding from defence.
My only main worry if what will happen if the likes of Raph Clarke and Jesse Smith can forge their way into the lineup? Clarke has earned his name playing as a rebounding defender, however i prefer to see him forward of centre (and i have a sneaking suspicion we will see him come into the team this week and play on a HFF). However, if he does play down back, that means the likes of Gwilt may have to play a more defensive role (Raph really struggles to defend AND rebound). Also, Jesse Smith may be closer than some think - he is nearly back to full training and it could be only a couple of weeks until he lines up at Sandy... Word is that if all goes to plan, he could have his chance in the seniors by round 10-ish...

But, a lot of this is being speculative - Roo IS a big loss and Lyon will spend the next few weeks playing different players at different ends of the ground to see how each adapt. The Saints pride themselves on their versatility and that, in the end of the day, is what will help them overcome Riewoldt's loss. I expect to see all of Goddard, Fisher, Gwilt, Clarke, Gilbert and even Dawson (in poor form down back) tried in the forward line over the next few weeks. Time will tell who will be the major DT beneficiary, however i believe that Gwilt is probably the most likely to continue his improvement.

On a similar note, if we look at possible rookie inclusions for the Saints, my money would be on one of Stanley, Heyne, or even an elevation of Gaertner (who really impressed down back in the pre-season). Unfortunately Tom Lynch is injured, as he would be the most appropriate inclusion down forward.

haha damn... I'm trading Roo for Gwilt. I think it consolidates his spot and could provide nice opportunity for him to play as a sweeper/rebounder in the backline when goddard or fisher go forward. Always liked him and he seems grown up now when I see him in action. I am not selecting him as a keeper, but moreso a cash cow. however i am open to that occurring - i need to upgrade tippett urgently.

I dare say Grundy will not be so unique as of Friday's lockout. A lot of coaches that already have Brown are talking Rioli or Grundy as their Roo replacement. I still need Brown, though, and am leaning towards stinginess when it comes to my trading strategy - may regret it as I did when missing out on Clark and jumping on Broughton after the first price rise, last year.
