Well i guess if we are looking at important news out of this, it would be:
-Dustin Martin debut (as if there was a doubt!)
-Ben Nason named on a wing for his debut (proving he will not line up in the backline)
-No Webberley
-No Polak
-Relton Roberts (elevated rookie) debuting – could be a good pick.
-Warnock first game in the Blue
-Murphy and Waite named
-Kane Lucas emergency (even tho Judd is missing – to me this says NO)
-Henderson named at CHF
-Kruezer named full forward BUT Warnock is the only other ruckman playing, suggesting Kruez will play time in the ruck,
-Bower a smokey as designated rebounder out of defence…
Still in 2 minds with Murphy.. Are we reading into this injury/fitness thing too much? By every account he seems good to go. I am desperately anxious to squeeze him into my team before tomorrow’s lockout if he is!
Ultimately he will average very highly for the year. How much (if at all) he will go down early on is unclear but you need to work out if he is worth a trade(may cost 2 to get the cash) during the first 10 rounds. My thoughts would be to probably select him knowing he could have a down turn early on, however he won’t average much less than in 2009 early in the season.
I think the risk of a little loss of price in the short term is worthwhile in the long term when you don’t have to burn the trade or two to pick him up. He played a half of the VFL last week – ran very well and played well apparently – so he picked up more fitness and touch.
Footytragic – can you get back to me on the defenders advice article? im not usually impatient but… it does start tonight. thanks :)
Just wondering if you think Banner is in Ports best 22. And also what you think of Kayler-Thomson, will he be pushed out in the next few weeks by players returning from injury?
Yeah, I’m really suss about JKT keeping his spot with the amount of quality players Hawks have to come back soon.
Banner is so touch and go. He had a great pre-season and looked really impressive. I never liked him as a junior, but he won me a bit in the NAB. Very touch and go if he’s best 22 and I don’t like the idea of having a fringe kid in the hands of the DT antichrists Choco AND Laidley!
I loved JKT’s game against the Dogs, but im gonna agree with Dan, he probably aint best 22 – especially with the likes of Burgoyne etc to return!
Also worried about Howlett for similar reasons…
Man – Got to re-organise my forward rookies
Rockliff and Pods not being selected puts a spanner in the works
Not sure I want to start the season with Gumby in my side and Duncan’s position in Geelongs side far from secure.
Probably go for Gumby or keep Rockliff – Gumby is in the best 22 when fit but Rockliff is a better cash cow when he gets his chance.
Stress attack! I hate Geelong and Brisbane for their selections!! argh!
here is the decision i face for my final forward spot.
pods (1st emg, job security) / gumbleton (doesnt have a body) / petereson (job security)/ robbie tarrant ( unknown) / duncan ( job security) / hitchcock (wade thompson nightmares) / rockliff (1st emg, job security)
Who would you pick, in what order, and why??
Also still very unsure on my 3rd defender around the 370k mark. Very touch and go
I have settled on Hitchcock at the moment, he adds a little livewire up front for the power. Surely he doesnt follow Wade’s example last year. Only concern is Motlop to come back into the side but he should get early games to prove himself.
Still undecided on Rockliff or Pods and whether it’s worth holding them until they get the opportunity to play enough games!? And just cant bring myself to get on Gumby.
the way i have it at the moment is hitchcock> gumbleton ( just) > duncan/peterson > rockliff > pods.
Can the footytragic team give us some info on tarrant?
How does he play, will the Roos give him every opportunity, etc?
He could potentially solve all these dilemmas. Petrie out for 6 weeks (susp/broken bones) so will he get at least 6 matches barring injury?
Tarrant probably brings slightly more job security than the other forwards, but he’ll be a very low scorer. They seem to be playing him in a key defensive post and he’s looking very dour in that role. I never rated him too highly – certainly not as high as the first round pick they used on him!
I’ve got the same dilemma due to havig one starting forward rookie and two on the bench… I am starting Hitchcock and belive he is pretty safe… The other two are pods and rockliff… I’m counting on injuries to get these two into their side, but I hate countig on players that I’m only selecting because they were named round one…
I don’t want gumby because of his injuries, Peterson is far from safe with rioli, Franklin and Burgoyne to come back. Tarrant is an interesting one- I’ve liked his preseason, and whilst he does fit under the same injury bracket at gumby, his injuries haven’t been quite so severe. He played a defensive role in the nab cup, but in the last two games, Scott asked him to play more attacking, equalling in a much better output. With kids the priority at north, and the injury to Petrie and greenwood, he is more than safe in the squad. I would probably chop rockliff from your rookies due to his price and the fact Geelong are currently playing lonergan in their squad- no chance he will keep his spot!! I even smell a late change! Hope this helps evryone!!
Oh, and for what it’s worth, I have kept my team unchanged- risky, but the I have been burned two years in a row selecting players on round one selection and not form…
27, 6 and 54 are Tarrants three nab scores.
Hitchcock has been averaging roughly 50 a game.
Such a difficult choice.
What do you make on the Gray injury? Will he play?
I hope you picked Murphy, Tits Mcgee. Murphy picked up 93 points from just 71% game time. When he is fully fit he plays at least 10% more than that. Huge upside!
Yeah good call murph! I had Gibbs, so I’m happy he stepped up in the second quarter! Final teams now released and no tarrant, beams, moles or ward!! Some coaches will be pulling their hair out! Those with moles should look at howlett from essendon. Persoanlly, I’ve been out all day and will be all night, so no changing my team at all! It’s scary and frustrating, but at least it will stop me from making silly last minute decisions! So far my stupidest may be dropping buddy from my team at 1am this morning!
Nah, couldn’t bring myself to do it Murph, didn’t have the balls. I will somehow work him into my team in due course i guess, but i don’t see him coming down enough to be considered a ‘bargain’ at any point.
