WESTERN BULLDOGS v ADELAIDE
Western Bulldogs
B: Jarrod Harbrow, Brian Lake, Dale Morris
HB: Ryan Hargrave, Tom Williams, Lindsay Gilbee
C: Nathan Eagleton, Daniel Cross, Daniel Giansiracusa
HF: Robert Murphy, Mitch Hahn, Brad Johnson
F: Jarrad Grant, Barry Hall, Shaun Higgins
Foll: Ben Hudson, Adam Cooney, Ryan Griffen
I/C: Dylan Addison, Jason Akermanis, Andrejs Everitt, Jordan Roughead
Emg: Brodie Moles, Josh Hill, Easton Wood
In: Akermanis, Johnson, Grant, Roughead
Out: Matthew Boyd (hand), Josh Hill, Will Minson, Brodie Moles
New: Jordan Roughead (North Ballarat Rebels)
- Roughead is finally confirmed to debut after being named on the extended bench a couple of weeks ago. He proved in the NAB cup he is a legitimate player and will be good with time. Unfortunately, the issue will be that his job security – i feel that dropping Minson is just a statement, rather than a permanent change. So if you have Roughead already, good luck to you, but if you don’t, he is not worth the trade to get him in.
- Veterans Akermanis and Jonson return to the lineup, which a number of coaches will be happy to see. Also, Jarrad Grant gets his first game of the year – again, don’t expect him to set the world on fire – key positions take a long time to grow and learn the game, so don’t expect anything different from Grant.
- Boyd out is a big one for plenty of coaches, but it will only be this week. It is disappointing to see Moles dropped, but it’s not too hard to see why. Being first emergency could be good if either Johno or Aker don’t get up.
Adelaide
B: Graham Johncock, Ben Rutten, Chris Schmidt
HB: Simon Goodwin, Phil Davis, Michael Doughty
C: Myke Cook, Patrick Dangerfield, Andrew McLeod
HF: Chris Knights, Brett Burton, Bernie Vince
F: Jared Petrenko, Kurt Tippett, Jason Porplyzia
Foll: Ivan Maric, Scott Thompson, Brent Reilly
I/C: Nathan van Berlo, Tyson Edwards, Richard Douglas, Ricky Henderson
Emg: Jonathon Griffin, Scott Stevens, Matthew Jaensch
In: van Berlo, Henderson
Out: David Mackay (hamstring), Taylor Walker
- Adelaide seem down to their last few fit players – Mackay will miss a few weeks with a hamstring injury and Walker has been dropped.
- VanBerlo is a big in for the Crows (although he has never been a super DT star!). Henderson will make his debut for the club – he is a rookie listed Key Position player and averaged only 32 points in the NAB. He is a real project player (he has come from basketball), so i would be surprised if he had a major impact.
SYDNEY SWANS v WEST COAST
Sydney Swans
B: Craig Bolton, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Tadhg Kennelly
HB: Martin Mattner, Heath Grundy, Nick Malceski
C: Jarrad McVeigh, Brett Kirk, Rhyce Shaw
HF: Ryan O’Keefe, Adam Goodes, Josh Kennedy
F: Shane Mumford, Daniel Bradshaw, Jarred Moore
Foll: Mark Seaby, Jude Bolton, Kieren Jack
I/C: Daniel Hannebery, Lewis Jetta, Nick Smith, Jesse White
Emg: Ed Barlow, Ted Richards, Gary Rohan
In: Smith
Out: Ben McGlynn (quad)
- Disappointing to see McGlynn injured after some super early form – he will miss 3 – 4 weeks which can make things hard to cover.
West Coast
B: Matthew Spangher, Darren Glass, Brett Jones
HB: Shannon Hurn, Will Schofield, Beau Waters
C: Matt Rosa, Matt Priddis, Andrew Embley
HF: Chris Masten, Mitchell Brown, Ashton Hams
F: Dean Cox, Josh Kennedy, Mark LeCras
Foll: Nic Naitanui, Brad Ebert, Adam Selwood
I/C: Patrick McGinnity, Bradd Dalziell, Scott Selwood, Lewis Stevenson
Emg: Ben McKinley, Brad Sheppard, Tom Swift
In: Hurn, Stevenson
Out: Daniel Kerr (hamstring), Ashley Hansen
New: Lewis Stevenson (Claremont/rookie list)
- Stevenson is a good sized midfielder – he is 20 years old and has come off the rookie list to play his first game (This is his third year on the club’s rookie list). The club will be hoping one of him or Scott Selwood can step up into the void left by the injured Kerr (12 weeks) – keep a close eye on both these boys as the increased role has the potential to see their scoring skyrocket.
MELBOURNE v BRISBANE LIONS
Melbourne
B: James McDonald, Matthew Warnock, James Frawley
HB: Cameron Bruce, Colin Garland, Lynden Dunn
C: Jack Trengove, Aaron Davey, Clint Bartram
HF: Brad Green, Ricky Petterd, Nathan Jones
F: Colin Sylvia, Matthew Bate, Rohan Bail
Foll: Mark Jamar, Jack Grimes, Brent Moloney
I/C: Joel Macdonald, Jordie McKenzie, Tom Scully, Jamie Bennell
Emg: Stefan Martin, Jordan Gysberts, Kyle Cheney
No change
- Probably the first time in a long time the Dees have gone in with no changes!
Brisbane Lions
B: Ashley McGrath, Daniel Merrett, Joel Patfull
HB: Travis Johnstone, Matt Maguire, Josh Drummond
C: Jared Brennan, Daniel Rich, Andrew Raines
HF: Justin Sherman, Jonathan Brown, Jack Redden
F: Todd Banfield, Brendan Fevola, Brent Staker
Foll: Matthew Leuenberger, Michael Rischitelli, James Polkinghorne
I/C: Mitch Clark, Simon Black, Tom Rockliff, James Hawksley
Emg: Albert Proud, Troy Selwood, Matt Austin
In: Clark, Black, McGrath
Out: Luke Power (hip), Albert Proud, Troy Selwood
- Whilst both Clark and McGrath return from suspension, the real story is that Rockliff is now set to play his third game – his form has been great so it is good to see him rewarded.
- Luke Power is the big out for Brisbane, although i think this will hurt Brissie more than it will hurt dream teams.
PORT ADELAIDE v ST KILDA
Port Adelaide
B: Jacob Surjan, Alipate Carlile, Troy Chaplin
HB: Paul Stewart, Chad Cornes, Steven Salopek
C: Danyle Pearce, Domenic Cassisi, Jason Davenport
HF: Matt Thomas, Warren Tredrea, David Rodan
F: Robbie Gray, Brett Ebert, Justin Westhoff
Foll: Dean Brogan, Travis Boak, Kane Cornes
I/C: Tom Logan, Matthew Lobbe, Jay Schulz, Hamish Hartlett
Emg: Mitchell Banner, Michael Pettigrew, Josh Carr
In: Schulz, Lobbe, Hartlett, Stewart
Out: Daniel Stewart, Nathan Krakouer, Jack Trengove, Cameron Hitchcock
New: Matthew Lobbe (Eastern Ranges)
- Port have made several changes for their big clash against the Saints – both Krakouer and Hitchcock are out with one week injuries, and Stewart and Trengove have each been dropped.
- Lobbe is confirmed for his first game, although don’t expect the scoring to be massive. He showed in the pre-season that he is not yet a DTer, however if he can prove a good chop-out for Brogan, expect him to keep his spot!
- Injured midfielder Hartlett will play his first game for the year – keep a good eye on the kid as he is a future star – the only worry is his hamstrings!
St Kilda
B: James Gwilt, Zac Dawson, Sam Gilbert
HB: Steven Baker, Sam Fisher, Brendon Goddard
C: Leigh Montagna, Clinton Jones, Nick Dal Santo
HF: Andrew McQualter, Jason Blake, Adam Schneider
F: Justin Koschitzke, Michael Gardiner, Stephen Milne
Foll: Steven King, Raphael Clarke, Lenny Hayes
I/C: David Armitage, Brett Peake, Farren Ray, Jarryn Geary
Emg: Robert Eddy, Jack Steven, Ben McEvoy
In: Koschitzke
Out: Jason Gram (inj)
- Whilst Kosi was the obvious ‘in’ after his three week suspension, Gram’s injury was the surprise. If i were a skeptic, i would not be too surprised if Gram was actually dropped (this EXACT same scenario happened last year – Gram was out ‘injured,’ but lined up in the VFL that weekend) – his game on the weekend was sub-par, and with a strong team across the board, Ross Lyon has every right to make an example of players not pulling their weight.
COLLINGWOOD v ESSENDON
Collingwood
B: Heath Shaw, Ben Reid, Ben Johnson
HB: Harry O’Brien, Nick Maxwell, Sharrod Wellingham
C: Luke Ball, Dane Swan, Steele Sidebottom
HF: Josh Fraser, Travis Cloke, Alan Didak
F: Dayne Beams, Paul Medhurst, Leon Davis
Foll: Darren Jolly, Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas
I/C (from): Leigh Brown, Brent Macaffer, Tarkyn Lockyer, Chris Dawes, Nathan Brown, Alan Toovey, Shane O’Bree
In: N. Brown, Dawes, O’Bree, Reid
Out: Simon Prestigiacomo (groin soreness)
- Although Presti is a massive ‘out’ for Collingwood, the fact he averages about 15 DT points mean we aren’t too interested – in fact, all of Collingwood’s changes are totally irrelevant to DT!
Essendon
B: Dustin Fletcher, Tayte Pears, Nathan Lovett-Murray
HB: Courtenay Dempsey, Cale Hooker, Henry Slattery
C: Jake Melksham, Jobe Watson, Kyle Reimers
HF: Brent Stanton, Scott Gumbleton, Ricky Dyson
F: Jason Winderlich, Michael Hurley, David Hille
Foll: Patrick Ryder, Andrew Welsh, Travis Colyer
I/C (from): Angus Monfries, Sam Lonergan, Bachar Houli, David Zaharakis, Alwyn Davey, Heath Hocking, Mark McVeigh
In: Stanton, Monfries, McVeigh, Davey
Out: Mark Williams (foot)
- “Foot…?” Yeah right… After four poor games to start the year, Williams has gotten the ‘boot!’
- Stanton is a HUGE in – he is averaging the most points per minute this year in DT so is a very welcome inclusion to many teams! It is also great to see McVeigh back, assuming Knights plays him in the midfield and not in a back pocket.
HAWTHORN v NORTH MELBOURNE
Hawthorn
B: Brent Guerra, Stephen Gilham, Thomas Murphy
HB: Ben Stratton, Ryan Schoenmakers, Rick Ladson
C: Grant Birchall, Sam Mitchell, Jordan Lewis
HF: Cyril Rioli, Lance Franklin, Chance Bateman
F: Michael Osborne, Jarryd Roughead, Campbell Brown
Foll: Brent Renouf, Luke Hodge, Brad Sewell
I/C (from): Xavier Ellis, Jarrod Kayler-Thomson, Garry Moss, Carl Peterson, Liam Shiels, Brendan Whitecross, Clinton Young
In: Sewell, Franklin, Kayler-Thomson, Shiels
Out: Jarryd Morton
- It looks like the Hawks are finally starting to get some of their stars back – both Sewell and Buddy are very welcome inclusions, whilst JKT and Shiels have been named on the extended bench. If i were an owner of the latter two, i would not be holding my breath over them playing though, unfortunately.
North Melbourne
B: Michael Firrito, Scott Thompson, Brady Rawlings
HB: Nathan Grima, Lachlan Hansen, Scott McMahon
C: Jack Ziebell, Ben Cunnington, Ryan Bastinac
HF: Aaron Edwards, Todd Goldstein, Brent Harvey
F: Daniel Wells, David Hale, Ben Warren
Foll: Hamish McIntosh, Andrew Swallow, Levi Greenwood
I/C (from): Liam Anthony, Lindsay Thomas, Leigh Adams, Gavin Urquhart, Josh Smith, Sam Wright, Cruize Garlett
In: Smith, Greenwood, Garlett, Cunnington
Out: Leigh Harding
New: Ben Cunnington (Geelong Falcons)
- Ben Cunnington – FINALLY! The kid had a bit of a run of injuries leading into the season, hence his late start, but i’m sure Brad Scott has been desperate to play him. Cunnington was the DT superstar of the TAC cup, averaging over 100 DT points in each of his matches. He is a tackling hero, averaging five per game – this mainly stems from his love for the contest; he is foremost an in-and-under player, winning 44% of his 20 disposals from under a pack. Essentially, he is a ‘Brad Scott-type’ player with his tough attitude and great work-rate. This kid will go far this year and win plenty of DT friends i’m sure.
FREMANTLE v RICHMOND
Fremantle
B: Jay van Berlo, Chris Tarrant, Adam McPhee
HB: Greg Broughton, Luke McPharlin, Roger Hayden
C: Matthew de Boer, David Mundy, Paul Hasleby
HF: Michael Johnson, Matthew Pavlich, Stephen Hill
F: Des Headland, Chris Mayne, Anthony Morabito
Foll: Aaron Sandilands, Michael Barlow, Paul Duffield
I/C (from): Hayden Ballantyne, Rhys Palmer, Nat Fyfe, Clancee Pearce, Kepler Bradley, Ryan Crowley, Alex Silvagni
In: Fyfe, Palmer, Bradley
Out: -
New: Nat Fyfe (Claremont)
- Fyfe is a ball winning medium forward, drafted to the Dockers with pick 20 in last year’s draft. He only averaged 42 points in the pre-season, but Mark Harvey’s love of picking the kids may see him earn plenty of opportunities this year.
- Palmer may also play his first game of the year after being sidelined for 12 months after rupturing his ACL. As proven in his first year, he is a strong ball-winner both inside and outside packs. He looks to have put on a lot of muscle in the off-season which will only help him through the year.
Richmond
B: Shane Edwards, Luke McGuane, Matt Dea
HB: Richard Tambling, Kelvin Moore, Chris Newman
C: Dustin Martin, Brett Deledio, Trent Cotchin
HF: Troy Taylor, Jack Riewoldt, Nathan Foley
F: Ben Nason, David Astbury, Ben Cousins
Foll: Tyrone Vickery, Alex Rance, Shane Tuck
I/C (from): Troy Simmonds, Andrew Collins, Mitch Morton, Mitch Farmer, Dean Polo, Matt White, Robin Nahas
In: Newman, McGuane, Foley, Cousins, Polo, Nahas
Out: Daniel Jackson (leg), Tom Hislop (leg), Jayden Post
- More changes for the Tigers, but at least the three debutants from last week have kept their spots – i was most impressed with Astbury who looked confident at senior level – they will face a test this week against Freo though.
- Senior players Newman, McGuane, Cousins and Nahas return to the team, and Nathan Foley will play his first game of the year – several big positives for Richmond.
CARLTON v GEELONG CATS
Carlton
B: Ryan Houlihan, Michael Jamison, Aaron Joseph
HB: Dennis Armfield, Simon White, Jordan Russell
C: Bryce Gibbs, Chris Judd, Kade Simpson
HF: Andrew Walker, Setanta O’hAilpin, Marc Murphy
F: Eddie Betts, Lachlan Henderson, Chris Yarran
Foll: Matthew Kreuzer, Heath Scotland, Andrew Carrazzo
I/C (from): Jeff Garlett, Richard Hadley, Kane Lucas, Brock McLean, Mitch Robinson, Jarrad Waite, Robert Warnock
In: Hadley, McLean, Waite
Out: -
- No outs yet, but Lucas, Robinson and Hadley would all be looking pretty shaky on that bench. Personally i see Waite, Robinson and Hadley missing out, but i have been wrong before. The final Monday teams won’t be released until Friday night, so be sure to check prior to lockout before you rely on one of these guys.
Geelong Cats
B: Josh Hunt, Tom Lonergan, Darren Milburn
HB: Corey Enright, Harry Taylor, Andrew Mackie
C: James Kelly, Cameron Ling, Joel Corey
HF: Tom Hawkins, James Podsiadly, Paul Chapman
F: Steve Johnson, Cameron Mooney, Gary Ablett
Foll: Brad Ottens, Joel Selwood, Jimmy Bartel
I/C (from): David Wojcinski, Mark Blake, Nathan Djerrkura, Ryan Gamble, Shannon Byrnes, Max Rooke, Simon Hogan
In: Djerrkura, Gamble, Rooke, Hogan
Out: Mitch Duncan (general soreness)
- No incredibly important ins for Geelong, but Duncan’s exit is a disappointing one. Although he is only out with General Soreness, he will now find it very tricky to break back into the Cats strong lineup.
- Despite Duncan’s omission, one forward line positive is the fact that Podsiadly is sitting pretty, named at CHF for his third game!
57 Comments on Round 5
Toby, pretty sure Monday’s final teams won’t be released until Saturday, so the Carlton and Geelong benches won’t be trimmed until then.
I’m tipping Hadley and Robinson to miss, but it’s actually pretty tough after that. Surely Lucas is safe for this week. It’s a pretty tough extended bench. Garlett, Warnock and Waite – I’m thinking one of them misses. Henderson would back up ruck if Warnock is out…
Nice write up boys. Think of biting the bullet and trading Clark for Cox given its almost a direct swap now and the big fella looks to be back. What are your thoughts?
what are your thoughts on Ben Cunnington?
Who should i downgrade Luke ball to out of Ryan Bastinac/Kane Lucas/Ben Cunnington?
Exactly my thoughts maanco, Luke Ball downgrade to Cunnington next week. You’re too late on Bastinac unfortunately.
Toby, you mentioned the Kerr injury might benefit Selwood or Stevenson, what about Shuey (once he returns)?
Also, yea Dan’s right Monday teams released on Saturday so going in blind on the lockout for that extended bench.
If Mclean doesn’t get up, there will be no changes. I would be very angry and disappointed from a Carlton point of view if Lucas is dropped – Pretty good for a Dreamteam view though.
I think that Sandilands has been struggling with the sole ruck duties for the past four rounds (well not struggling – but suffering from) Do you think with K.Bradley named on the I/C Freo is looking to ease the burden on Sandi and trial bradley?
Without Boyd and with J.Brown under an injury cloud i’m up in the air about a captain – Sandilands would have been a good choice against the Tigers. Any advice on the following for captain?
Mitchell, Selwood (WC), Selwood (Geel), Gian, Broughton, Duffield, Goddard?
leatherhed i was thinking this week so i can get swan in
Rembrandt- I would say your best choices from for Captain from that list are Goddard or Duffield, and i wouldn’t be to concerned about Sandi, he will still chalk up a ton against the Tigers so i would still strongly consider him for the “C”.
I don’t mean to sound patronising, but surely you wouldn’t really consider Scott Selwood as captain material, at all – ever!? .. would you?
Gian, Broughton and J.Selwood are all capable of big scores but are yet to hit their straps this year so those aren’t too bad choices either, but just not yet.. Mitchell coming off that injury last week is the only detractor there otherwise he is a good choice too.
i think he meant Adam Selwood
I think Rembrandt might actually mean Adam Selwood – only 1 game under 100 DT points to date – and looking very much like a keeper at this early stage…
Dangerfield to Pods.
Yay or Nay? Danger’s BE is ~93!
Yeah, good points fellas.. my apologies Rembrandt. I forgot that there is about 20 different Selwood’s running around! … Adam would be a good unique Captain pick mate, he is in great form this year.. doesn’t have a fantastic record against the Swans though.
Thanks guys sorry to confuse – too many selwoods in this comp! I assure you I was referring to Adam. I think it will be Duffield and Goddard who have earned their respective ‘C’ and ‘V’in Team Radical.
do you think swan will get his BE of 126 this week?
I still couldn’t possibly consider Adam Selwood for captaincy yet. He’s doing very well, but he is nowhere near captaincy material. When talking captains we’re talking guys like Swan, Ablett, Bartel, Riewoldt (oops), Goddard – DT stars. I’m not looking just for a ton from my captain, I’m looking for 120+ and Adam Selwood is not in their company yet, despite his good start. For this week Rembrandt I still like Sandi from your team, but wouldn’t be afraid to pick Duffy or Goddard. Note that Goddard has a pretty average record against Port, but I think he’ll be fine this week.
Maanco, depending on the structure of your midfield I’m not a big fan of downgrading Ball. If you’re already starting a 2-3 rookies I’d be trying to turn Ball into a keeper. One sneaky name that could turn out to be a good mid priced selection is Rhys Palmer. Huge risk, but it nets you about $80K and if Palmer actually becomes a keeper it’ll save you a trade down the track. It’s highly speculative at this stage with him, but if he scored well as a rookie on a crap Freo team, he should be able to on a winning Freo team. I generally hate trading a player in for their first game…but you’ll have to weigh up that Palmer is playing Richmond (if he is named in the final 22…keep an eye on that, I suspect he will be).
Murph, it’s hard to avoid Pods. Who else have you got around the lower end of your forwards? Personally I wouldn’t abandon the Danger ship yet, but I wouldn’t totally advise against it. I’m just someone who has a bit more patience with players, but I can see that it’s completely reasonable to get rid of him.
Maanco, Swan is touch and go with that BE. With a gun like Swan it shouldn’t matter too much though, unless you’re planning a trade for this week or next week and money is very tight.
Wow… Good to see all the comments flying in fellas!
For those looking at bringing in a rookie mid this week, i think Cunnington is a sure bet. Although we have seen no AFL form either this year or in the pre-season, he plays a great DT game filled with high possessions and tackling. As i mentioned in the article, Brad Scott will put him straight into the guts and give him every opportunity to succeed! I like the Ball –> Cunnington trade as i cant imagine Ball improving much this year – it is the same DT output he showed at St.Kilda last year, and as i mentioned in the pre-season, this was never going to change!
For those with Taylor Walker or Dangerfield and tempted to offload – this is the week to do it! Either Pods or Rockliff are great trading targets – it is rare that these sort of players come along so it is essential to jump on board!
Rembrandt, Adam Selwood may not be the greatest idea Vs Sydney… He is unique, but i worry that he may not make his average. Really happy to see him in your team though! I wish i had had the balls through pre-season. Personally, Goddard is my choice – ultra consistent midfielder who kicks goals. He is in superb nick at the moment and i would even be tempted to recommend him over the likes of Swan this week (Although i think Swan is still a great choice). Duffield is good too, but he relies too much on easy ball – he is a better scorer against teams using zones as they play him behind the ball. Whilst easy ball won’t really be lacking against Richmond, i still have my worries…
Ok boys, crunch time..
Would really like some opinions here..
Have Ballantyne, Ziebell, Danger, Wright (Hitchcock and Pods) rounding out my forward line.
Trade Option 1: Wright to Rockliff >> Hitchcock to Astbury (2 Trades) – Netting me a handy 221,000 for future upgrades. However, it’s purely a downgrade trade on both accounts getting me no real keepers for the time being unfortunately, and also means holding onto Danger while his price will more than likely drop further.
Trade Option 2: Wright to Rockliff (1 trade) – Pocket around 166,000 and hope Danger doesn’t drop too much to pounce on a falling premium with him next week – ie. Didak, Johnson, etc.
Trade Option 3: Wright to Rockliff >> Balla to Syliva (2 Trades) – Just fell short of going Danger to Sylvia this week and Balla has the next highest Breakeven after Danger, but ousting Balla this soon seems a bit hasty as it’s really a knee-jerk workaround type trade to still get Sylvia this week, instead of using Danger.
Trade Option 4: Wright to Rockliff >> Danger to Pav/Brennan? (2 Trades) – Not too bad i guess, but something still hasn’t convinced with Brennan yet for some reason, although his form is hard to deny. He is also the flavour of the month and everyone seems to be getting on him so he is starting tp lose that unique appeal IMO.
Pav is Pav and you know what you’re gonna get i guess but i would just prefer more of a unique pick in someone like Sylvia for one of my Forward Premiums this year to hopefully get that edge over some of my competition.
Trade Option 5: Wright to Astbury >> Danger to Sylvia (2 Trades) – Get’s me Sylvia but skeptical on Astbury’s job security over Rockliff. Meaning i would also be relying on Pods as my 7th Forward for the time being.
If anyone can give me any other scenarios, it would be greatly appreciated! I’m really struggling with this one as you can see!.. haha
i was thinking of downgrading ball to cunnington this week and upgrading armitage to Dane swan but now im thinking i should wait until next week to see how swan and cunnington go and then do the trade.
What do you think?
Thanks for your fantastic feedback
Haha Dan… Good to see we’re agreeing on everything! lol
I think i will offload danger into Pods – huge profit. I think Gumby (with Presti out this week) has a bit more to go and i cannot justify trading roberts –> pods (did the reverse before lockout R1…big mistake).
Go Blues! ;)
Wilson, Number 2 works best for me… In fact, as footy is so unpredictable, Sylvia could come out and score 40 on the weekend… So whilst not probable, if it does happen you will be cursing yourself as in a few weeks he would be cheaper…
I also like the above as it doesnt involve getting rid of Balla. Keep him – he has plenty more money to gain!
As for Brennan, the form is real – it aint just DT scoring. My only worry is that oppositions will begin to clamp down on him with taggers… But still, he aint a bad choice at that price!
Wilson, how many trades have you got left? On face value, I like option 2 the best. I wouldn’t be trading out Balla. Last week was just a shocker and there is no better match up in the league to shut him down than Steve Baker.
With Astbury, in general I’m trying to cleanse my team of Richmond players. They are a rabble and there’s not many points flying around rabbles. I did miss last week’s game though, so I should point out I haven’t actually seen how Astbury looks at AFL level. I hear he looked good, but you know…Richmond…
You’ve got to remember with Dangerfield that he got a mega concussion the week before last and may not be fully fit and firing because of that. He kicked 5 goals in the game before he was pounded into the turf by the Demons. I think he’ll bounce back.
Any chance of a move into the guts of midfield given the Crows weakness there? I guess they’re pretty weak up forward though too.
Also, does anyone else get a minor pang of frustration when one of your players has the ball and the end of quarter siren goes and they’ve not disposed of it.?!
Hughie, whenever any of my players have the ball and the final seconds are ticking down I’m screaming at the TV “JUST KICK IT! JUST KICK IT!” The Crows weakness in the forward line is what pisses me off about dropping Taylor Walker – they weren’t even playing him forward and he’s the most naturally talented forward on their list.
Have 17 left as of today (sigh) .. which is why 2 trades this week and potentially 2 next week seems way too trigger-happy this early on in the season.
I was leaning towards option 1 or 2 actually, purely to save cash. You make a good point with Sylvia thought Toby, i’m almost inclined to give him this week to see how he goes against a stronger opposition in Brisbane, and then go from there.
Thanks for your input though guys, i’ve got approx. 8 hours to make a decision.. hehe
so should i downgrade ball to cunnington or Lucas and armitage to swan this week or next week?
Went Ball to Swan. Was toying with downgrading, but will enjoy having Swan in my side again. See how cunnington goes, but may be a good time for a Trengove or Martin down to Cunnington in a couple of weeks.
Maanco – unfortunately as they’re playing on Monday, you won’t even know for sure before Lockout if Lucas has retained his spot in the Blues line-up (named on extended bench IIRC) which makes your decision even harder…
Personally I’ve been set on Wright to Pods since the start of this week and was only awaiting confirmation Pods would hold his spot.
I’ve made my one and only move this week – hitchcock to pods. gives me 140,000 in the bank to work with, plus Pod’s price rise when it comes into play to move up to a premium.
I feel like it’s a good move, it’s only my second trade of the season but it’s purely a money making trade with an eye to the future.
Not sure if I should start Pods, Gray or Ziebell on the field. Pods is averaging the highest and the Blues are pretty weak down back but Gray wont be playing Geelong every week and will be better for last weeks hitout. Ziebell has been up and down all season. Thoughts? The rest of my forward line consists of Brennan, Buddy, Hall, JBrown, Gia and Rockliff.
Maanco, how many trades do you have left? You don’t want to burn too many trades too early. Personally I’d wait a bit – the only reason is that I think Lucas’ score last week was one out of the box. Ratten is a bit similar to Knights, he gives the kids a bit of a taste and drops them after a month. Cunnington should be a regular with North, but if you could get a look of how he looks that’d be ideal.
Hughie, just for a bit of lateral thinking, would you bench Hall this week? He’s got a poor record against Rutten – admittedly that’s with a slow delivering Sydney team and Adelaide were a lot better over those years, but maybe something to consider.
Thoughts on starting Rockliff over Dangerfield this week guys?
Would appreciate thoughts on who to start and who to bench in my Defence – tossing up between Hunt, Waters, Maguire and Nason… Had Waters and Nason on the bench last week and they outscored Hunt and Maguire (and Malceski!) – don’t want to miss out on 100+ points 2 weeks in a row.
Wilson, not a bad idea – Rockliff vs Melbourne or Danger vs Dogs. It does sound better, and its not like Danger has been in amazing form anyway…
Juzz, Definitely Waters and Maguire this week. Waters is looking like a great option at the moment – in fact, lock him into your 6th spot permanently! Nason comes up against Freo and Hunt vs Carlton. Not bad, but not as ideal as Goose vs Melbourne (who have no direct opponent for him, meaning he will be allowed to zone off a lot!). I have the exact same last four players as you and this is what i am doing!
Also Murph, interested on your thoughts on White’s first game? I was impressed by him, however he seems to be flying a bit under the radar at the moment!
Chad, perfect trade. Swan is the type you need in your team – great captain choice etc… Hoping he will have a day out against the Dons this week at the G.
I’m excited about Cunnington, but two more weeks will get u even more cash for the downgrade. Worth holding off if u can!
Personally, this week i am trading Dustin Martin for Hayes. Next week, Cox comes in (hopefully!). BANG!
Thanks Toby, I think I’ll do exactly as you suggested – though I do expect Waters’ DT score to be affected somewhat by Hurn’s return.
Just looking a little ahead… Does anyone know when Gary Rohan might debut for Sydney? Read a post elsewhere which indicated he was among the best on ground in the Swans Ressies last week and was hoping he might come in for McGlynn, but he didn’t :-( I fancy him in the Mids as much as Cunnington due to his DP status.
Do you think i’m wasiting a trade going Clark to Cox? Or is Clark going to continue to disapoint now that he’s sharing the ruck duties?
i have 18 trades left and if i go through with the ball to cunnington, armitage to swan trade i will have 16 trades left
That’s probably a pretty good trade you have achy but i dont realy know if you should do it now or next week considering Clark has a BE of 140 and Cox has a BE of 150. i would most likely do it now due to that cox is more likely to get close to his BE
Heres an idea to make your site better as well add an option to reply to other peoples comments
sorry cox has a BE of 106. so trade him in now if you were to trade Clark out for cox
and maybe edit our own comments as well
sorry about my 5 posts in a row but i couldn’t edit my posts
Toby, is it worth waiting the extra week for the Martin to Hayes trade? They each have B/E’s of 32 and 123 respectively, so i imagine you could gain a bit more cash from Dustin and Lenny is a chance to leak just that little bit more i reckon… Depends on your situation i guess but food for thought?
Toby i’d heard some good things about White. I was quite impressed with his performance and looks like a very handy pick up for the blues. I believe he was a little bit in his shell though, probably due to nerves. I’ve heard he likes to take the game on and often pushes forward for a goal as well.
What did he score in dreamteam?
wilson i think you should wait atleast another week before you trade Martin to Hayes
martin will keep rising and Hayes will go down a bit more
Thanks maanco, but i was actually asking that question of Toby as he mentioned he was going to do that trade in an earlier comment… gem of a trade though. I’m almost thinking of doing it myself!
Not that I was having any doubts, but Sam Wright being dropped this week, along with the continuing rumours about Jon Brown, has cemented the Wright to Pods trade for me.
Hey, ideally the Hayes trade would be next week, but I have spent a lot of time sortin out my priorities and order of trades over these next few weeks. I’m planning to win this comp, so I have decided my biggest weakness is Martin in the midfield. I need a premium in his place and I have had my eyes on Lenny since round one. Over the next two weeks I am also planning hille to cox, hall to didak/Sylvia and a downgrade of either hunt or maguire. This means one trade needs to be done today before I can’t afford my other options (by delaying the process an extra week). So whilst this trade will break some rules, I belive it could work out for the better in the long run…
Yay! Moles a late inclusion tonight for hargrave!
I like your thinking Toby, i too have put a fair bit of thought into future trades and unfortunately it hasn’t worked out as sweetly as i’d hoped so far..
I am also feeling a bit edgier as i’m gunning to get a few wins on the board early in my league games as we are competing for cash prizes whoever finishes 1st, 2nd and 3rd at year end, which has made me go a bit trade happy early to get my team as strong and competitive as possible. (League is ranked top 300 at the moment)
You mentioned your trade this week breaks a few rules.. i have already broken a couple of my own which i believe where for the greater good, but i just don’t want to fall into that mindset too much.
Here’s my scenario: Already done 4 trades. 2 “adjustment” trades after round 2, 1 for Riewoldt, and 1 today for Rockliff and I am up against very strong opposition this week, with Boyd being a big OUT for me… If you were in my shoes at the moment, would you consider a 5th trade to get a Premium in this week (ie. Sylvia, as i mentioned earlier) or sit tight on 16 trades and back in the players i’ve got???? ahhh DT!!!
Wilson, without seeing your team it is pretty hard to judge… But personally i wouldnt recommend doing anything but the Rockliff trade this week… You could always trade for Sylvia next week if you need – but as i said earlier, his form is not really known after just one game against Richmond. Also, that cash may come in handy if you have an injury or something next week! (Touch wood you don’t, but DT is so unpredictable!).
Whilst some early wins are important (especially for bragging rights), just like in AFL, all you need is a spot in the top four (even better in DT, no home ground advantage!). So an occasional loss is ok. The key is to pace yourself into the finals! There’s no point making it to top of the ladder only to have no trades left with four weeks to go! Injuries/suspensions/mass-droppings always happen that time of year, so the trades need to be available!
Good Luck!
P.S. Just did the Lenny trade! I love Lenny, so very happy!
hope my ball to cunnington, armitage to swan trade pays off
Glad you’re on board the Lenny train, Toby… Anyone think the Dees can get up this evening? I’ll be sipping a few frothies in the longroom!
I tipped the Dees and it’s looking good so far. I hope no one went Goddard captain! I pointed out his bad record against Port, but I didn’t think he’d struggle this week.
Good call to suggest Waters and Maguire on the ground over Hunt and Nason, Toby. Mind you, Nason and Hunt haven’t played yet but i think it’s safe to say they won’t outscore Waters and Maguire..
Toby, I too am glad I took your advice and put Waters and Maguire on the field – thanks :-) However, I wouldn’t have so much faith in your advice if you had suggested I bench Jon Brown and play Gumby on the field as he would more than double Browny’s score!! lol
