I wouldnt think he'd play 22... I certainly think he is capable of it though! Would probably take the spot played by Gwilt/Dempster/Eddy from last year - the one position the Saints craved to fill, but couldnt find a consistent player for it. He has certainly been training well, and his potential far outweighs his price... i would be hesitant though to lock him in now - i would need to monitor how he goes in the pre-season and also in week one selection. As indecisive as this sounds, if he is named round one, i would pick him. But that is the problem with kids in the top 4 - 6 teams, they are far from guaranteed anything! But for what it's worth, Steven is a work-horse at training and just the type of player Lyon loves and wants in his team.
As a side note, if Steven doesnt make the team, Lynch is the other that could play in that same role (albeit in a very different way)

And as for the Saints dlow, I think the wheel is far from fallen off. Ideally, Lovett would not be suspended, as i believe he would have been very important to the Saints this year, but we do also have Peake, who whilst not as good, can play that run and carry role well (as he showed in 2006). Also, due to Lovett being at the club all of 7 seconds, it wont have as much effect on the group as if it were a key Saints player.
From what i have seen and heard at the Saints, they are having a better pre-season than last year - Riewoldt is having his best pre-season in five years, only Eddy and Jesse Smith are on the injury list, David Armitage and Jack Steven are training very well (Armo WILL replace Ball's position, and Steven will play as a forward), and even Winmar is surprising many (it is even thought he is a good chance to play some games this year. I will get more into this when i review the Saints, and i can guarantee it will probably be the longest one of the series...
But to tell you now, the three big improvers at the Saints in 2010 will be Armitage, McEvoy and Steven. Armo is in his fourth year and looking fantastic on the track. Officially his 'apprenticeship' is over (Lyon has ALWAYS said that new draftees need a four year period to develop properly). McEvoy has come back looking like a man, and came third in the 3km trial. He WILL take King's place in the team for most of the season (King is now actually a player/coach, emphasizing he will mainly be used off the field this season) - Big Mac showed some great signs in 2009, especially against Hawthorn - expect him to have a big one this year! As for Steven, i dont know a Saints supporter NOT drooling about him - he is a nuggety half-forward in a similar mould to Chapman. He can play midfield or forward and is ready for senior footy as proved last year in his debut. He will play a similar role to that played by McQualter in 2009 - i think Schneider and McQ will both move further upfield this year, playing more linking roles, allowing for the introduction of Steven into the 22 - he has the 'WOW' factor about him and i expect Lyon to want to use him as much as possible...

So the future aint bleak for the Saints - i think we have the ability of matching the home and away season of last year. Hopefully though we can come home with the silverware this time!

Toby - Whats going on at the Saints?

Wheels haven't fallen off yet but there are signs with Ball leaving and Lovett offside with the coach and the season hasn't even started.

BTW you won't be getting on the Ball train again?

Oops, my mistake on Pendles. He was a bit too far back on my list to really consider, but I thought I'd heard otherwise.

Reid is a perfect example of why I don't really see value in Collingwood this year. He's decent enough and had a cracking 2009 season in the VFL from what I hear, but it'll be hard for him to nail a spot down. Even if he gets games, will he stick around for long?

There's not enough substance to Daisy's game for me. He's an effective player and I quite like him, but his usefullness is more about the impact he can have on a game. I'm not a fan of his DT game.

One name I'd like to throw up for discussions sake (I will not be touching him FWIW) is Sean Rusling. Anyone got the balls? They've been very patient with him, so they'd have to like him. Can he stay on the park and is he worth the hype? I dare say we'll open up a similar discussion about another injury prone key forward when Toby discusses Essendon next week too...

Pendlebury's 0 has not been included in his price for this year Dan, he's fully priced at 103.

Steele was right at the top of my watch-list after the finals last season, but I haven't considered him much lately. There hasn't really been a lot of news about him this pre-season (or maybe I just have to pay more attention).

Reid is interesting if he can get a regular gig (I'm not convinced he will though, Collingwood's backline is pretty solid). He's scores in the VFL last year were pretty good for a key defender, I think he could be one worth watching.

If you aren't liking the value of Medhurst (will definitely consider him if he shows good form leading into the season), then I think Thomas will be a good 'smokey' selection. Had an excellent finals series, and should move towards full-time midfield roles this year (might have to wait for Dick to come back from injury on that one).

Dlow - there's info about the partial lockout at the login screen. There's a link you can click on that says Round 1 Partial Lockout Info.

Toby - I don't really see value in Collingwood players this year. They've got a pretty settled 22, so there's not much chance of untried players getting a significant crack and on a related point, I don't see huge DT improvement in their 20-30 game players, apart from Sidebottom.

Sidebottom would be my pick for value at Collingwood. I think he'll take his game to the next level this year. That semi final against the Crows was absolutely superb. Technically Pendlebury is value considering his 0 last season affected his price (but not his rolling avg last year???) and he'd be a very good pick, but I'm scratching to find genuine value at the Pies.

Those couple of cheap places in the backline r certainly hard ones dlow... I've locked in ladson and the other spot is Kennelly at the moment but it may change to waters or broadbent... As for that rule, there will b a standard lockout before the Richmond v Carlton game, but after, it will b unlocked and we can change anyone except our rich or Carl plyers. It's to give more time after the fiascos of the last two years...
Dan, I agree medhurst is a risk... But I guessed dids and Leon will play more in the midfield... Who would ur collingwood bargain b? And anything you'd like to add on ur man sidearse??
