Going for the win - Finished 627 last year so not too bad BTW my GF's team was in the top 100 due to me forgetting to make trades for about a month then getting lucky with Mitch Clark LOL

Lesson from that was that you can make up 3000 places in a month if you have trades up your sleave

Problem this year is that all the decent rookies are in the midfield.

BTW are you guys going to start a league?

Starting two rookie mids worked brilliantly last year, specifically because of Rich and Otten (and to a lesser extent Robinson and Beams). What if no one scores at their level this year? Structurally you have to consider if you are going to have the cattle to pull that sort of thing off.

The downgrade options are always going to be more lucrative in the midfield, but you can downgrade any player who isn't a keeper to a rookie during the year.

I like the idea of starting two rookie mids, but I won't always do it (in fact, last year was the first for me). At the end of the day, the most points are in the midfield, so I'm not too keen on skimping at the top end there, especially where captain options are concerned.

My first crack at a team this year had three premium mids, one mid priced and two rookies starting. Both rookies were Top 3 picks though (Trengove and Martin), so they're a bit more expensive.

It depends on what you're entering DT for though. If you want to just win your league then you can pace yourself, but if you want your best overall ranking and a shot at the prize, you need to start a bloke or two who can average 110 from Round 1.

Dan

One thing I lern't about team structure last year from you guys was that you need to start at least 2 rookies in the midfield from the start.

This gives your team more flexability due to the number of midfield downgrade options avaliable during the year.

Plan is to have 2-3 rookie midfielders starting, none in the backs and possibly 1 on the forwards, if you count Charman maybe one in the Rucks

Every year there is a rookie back that comes out of nowhere to score points, plan is to downgrade to these guys once they show something, too risky to take a punt on rookie backs, i'm just going to pick the first 2 rookie backs that are named in the sides for round 1.

Judging from how rookies are classified this year it looks like this year will be the first for me not to have any premium midfielders in my starting line up. Plan is to cash up at the start and upgrade to which ever premium is value during the year Swan and Ablett will have a bad game then I'm on.

Note this is the reverse to what I did last year, I only started Rich and had alot of premium midfielders and had a cheap forward line. Theory there was the forward are inconsistant and therefore you can pick up alot of these guys during the year cheap at some stage - i still like this theory but there aren't many quality rookie forward at this stage - we might have a few more once the preseason starts
