Thanks Brett, I ended up going with Spurr. My thoughts were that if this trade was going to be my D9 (D8 is Clarke) then I don't really need him to play and the cheaper player the more cash I have for other upgrades.

Looked innocuous but the said suspected slight hamstring tear. That'd be 3 weeks, rounds 9-11. Demons in r11 and bye in r12 so no need to rush. Sounds like Swan will be back in r13, so a 4-week layoff.

Also, he was mine & many others' captain this week. He was on 30pts per qtr, meaning as captain his injury has cost us 60pts in missing that last qtr! This is every bit as damaging as Ellis getting 6pts last week for those that had him on field.

@3rdmonkey, how serious did it look? Had Hanley go down last week for the same thing and wasn't expecting him to be named this week but he is. Same situation or look pretty bad? At least he knocked out close to 100 though for us:)

@2011leaguechamps @UYclub

Thanks for the extra effort mateys! I can now clearly see how the DPP can really help you avoid some donuts. And also you guys have effectively save me 1 trade, which is awesome since I only have 12 left!

Going through the example I noticed some things that stood out.
- you've only named 6 defenders on the field (or is that a DT thing?)
- you only used 4 trades. I thought the minimum you can get away with is 6 trades.
- Redden is mistaken for a rnd 12 bye player (Port is a rnd 13 bye team)
- Choosing when to cop the donuts gives us more options.

Thanks again. This has been an eye opener.

@ Nana - FWIW, I have kept Ellis, and am playing him on my field (with Morris and and a non playing Bugg on my bench)? I have confidence that Ellis will not be the sub this week, and will score approx 50 - 70 pts?

I also just get the feeling that Morris might play a lock down role on one of the Essendon small, pacy forwards this week?

I don't have Smedts, but he looked like he turned the corner a bit last week (and he isn't the sub) - so maybe he may be the best choice for you? Big stage for him tonight though, so you have a tough decision!! Good luck!!

@ Dartanian - thanks for the vote of confidence!!! That settles my nerves a bit, as I find it a little scary making someone captain that your opponent does not even have!!!

@ Greg - Smedts is a late in tonight (if this helps your decision)? Sounds like his JS may be shaky though, unless Geelong are just playing funny buggers by dropping him in the first place?

I think people are worried about Spurr because defenders like Suban )small) and Silvagni (tall) are currently out of the Freo team, and Morabito (wing / HFF) will return at some point? I am actually amazed that Silvagni is not playing in defence as I rate him highly, but Lyon must have his reasons?? I think they are trying to make him into a forward, which will not work IMO?

FWIW, if you are set on trading Ellis this week, then I would still bring in Spurr in front of Smedts as I think he has a more "DT friendly" game - and his JS is at least as good as Smedts.

I didn't notice that Redden had made Port's emergencies. Good signs :)
