Teams: The Grand Final
FREMANTLE v CARLTON
Fremantle
B: Dylan Roberton, Antoni Grover, Greg Broughton
HB: Roger Hayden, Luke McPharlin, Jay van Berlo
C: Garrick Ibbotson, David Mundy, Stephen Hill
HF: Chris Mayne, Matthew Pavlich, Michael Walters
F: Jesse Crichton, Michael Johnson, Matthew de Boer
Foll: Aaron Sandilands, Nick Suban, Paul Duffield
I/C: Adam McPhee, Paul Hasleby, Anthony Morabito, Nathan Fyfe
Emg: Rhys Palmer, Des Headland, Hayden Ballantyne
In: Hasleby, Pavlich, McPhee, Hayden, Sandilands, Mundy, Hill, Mayne, Morabito, Fyfe
Out: Kepler Bradley, Byron Schammer, Steven Dodd, Ryan Murphy, Rhys Palmer, Clayton Hinkley, Tim Ruffles (knee), Clancee Pearce, Justin Bollenhagen, Zac Clarke
- As expected, Freo have made a whopping ten changes to their team that was embarrassed by Hawthorn last week. They have brought back Pavlich, Sandilands, Mundy, Morabito and Fyfe, to name only half of them.
- Bradley, Bollenhagen and Palmer are somewhat surprising omissions though, but at least they shouldn’t hinder too many teams.
Carlton
B: Marcus Davies, Michael Jamison, Aaron Joseph
HB: Dennis Armfield, Paul Bower, Jordan Russell
C: Kade Simpson, Chris Judd, Shaun Grigg
HF: Chris Yarran, Jarrad Waite, Andrew Carrazzo
F: Jeff Garlett, Lachie Henderson, Eddie Betts
Foll: Robert Warnock, Marc Murphy, Bryce Gibbs
I/C: David Ellard, Shaun Hampson, Mitch Robinson, Heath Scotland
Emg: Joe Anderson, Chris Johnson, Andrew Walker
In: Joseph, Hampson, Yarran
Out: Richard Hadley, Andrew Walker, Sam Jacobs
- I’m REALLY surprised that they have dropped Jacobs again for Hampson, especially since he more than held his own last week against the Cats. Walker and Hadley also make way.
- Yarran is the only real exciting inclusion after a great game for the Bullants on the weekend.
GEELONG CATS v WEST COAST
Geelong Cats
B: Darren Milburn, Matthew Scarlett, Tom Lonergan
HB: Andrew Mackie, Harry Taylor, Joel Corey
C: Paul Chapman, James Kelly, David Wojcinski
HF: Cameron Ling, Tom Hawkins, Steve Johnson
F: Mathew Stokes, Cameron Mooney, Travis Varcoe
Foll: Brad Ottens, Jimmy Bartel, Gary Ablett
I/C: Mark Blake, Shannon Byrnes, Joel Selwood, Corey Enright
Emg: Taylor Hunt, Daniel Menzel, Simon Hogan
In: Ling, Lonergan, Mackie, Ottens
Out: James Podsiadly (suspension), Josh Hunt (suspension), Taylor Hunt, Daniel Menzel
- As we already knew, both Pods and Hunt will miss this week with suspension, whilst youngsters Menzel and Hunt make way for more senior players, despite impressing over the past fortnight.
- Mackie is back in after a bout of the flu, whilst the inclusions of Ling and Ottens may help some.
West Coast
B: Will Schofield, Eric Mackenzie, Ashley Smith
HB: Beau Waters, Matthew Spangher, Shannon Hurn
C: Matt Rosa, Chris Masten, Andrew Embley
HF: Andrew Strijk, Josh Kennedy, Luke Shuey
F: Mark LeCras, Callum Wilson, Ashton Hams
Foll: Dean Cox, Scott Selwood, Brad Ebert
I/C: Jordan Jones, Patrick McGinnity, Nic Naitanui, Koby Stevens
Emg: Quinten Lynch, Lewis Stevenson, Tim Houlihan
No change
HAWTHORN v COLLINGWOOD
Hawthorn
B: Brent Guerra, Stephen Gilham, Thomas Murphy
HB: Brendan Whitecross, Josh Gibson, Ben Stratton
C: Chance Bateman, Sam Mitchell, Clinton Young
HF: Shaun Burgoyne, Lance Franklin, Cyril Rioli
F: Michael Osborne, Jarryd Roughead, Carl Peterson
Foll: Brent Renouf, Jordan Lewis, Brad Sewell
I/C: Campbell Brown, Xavier Ellis, Rhan Hooper, Wayde Skipper
Emg: Rick Ladson, Liam Shiels, Ryan Schoenmakers
In: Young, Hooper
Out: Luke Hodge (knee), Grant Birchall (hamstring)
- Two very big outs for Hawthorn in the Grand Final - Hodge was 50/50 all week with his knee injury and unfortunately Hawthorn have erred on the side of caution, resting him this week. Birchall will miss around 3 weeks with a hamstring injury.
- Young and Hooper return, although I’m sure that won’t help too many.
Collingwood
B: Nick Maxwell, Nathan Brown, Ben Johnson
HB: Harry O’Brien, Ben Reid, Heath Shaw
C: Sharrod Wellingham, Dane Swan, Alan Toovey
HF: Brent Macaffer, Travis Cloke, Luke Ball
F: Dayne Beams, Chris Dawes, Steele Sidebottom
Foll: Darren Jolly, Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas
I/C: Jarryd Blair, Josh Fraser, Tyson Goldsack, John McCarthy
Emg: John Anthony, Leon Davis, Paul Medhurst
In: Fraser, Reid, McCarthy
Out: Leigh Brown (suspension), Alan Didak (shoulder), John Anthony
- Another huge blow for many teams with Didak a non-starter after suffering a shoulder injury in last week’s game.
- Leigh Brown will also miss with suspension, making way for Fraser’s 200th.
ADELAIDE v ST KILDA
Adelaide
B: Graham Johncock, Ben Rutten, Scott Stevens
HB: Brad Symes, Phil Davis, Michael Doughty
C: Nathan van Berlo, Richard Douglas, David Mackay
HF: Ricky Henderson, Taylor Walker, Patrick Dangerfield
F: Jason Porplyzia, Kurt Tippett, Rory Sloane
Foll: Ivan Maric, Scott Thompson, Brent Reilly
I/C: James Sellar, Brodie Martin, Chris Schmidt, Matthew Jaensch
Emg: Myke Cook, Jack Gunston, Shaun McKernan
In: Martin
Out: Will Young (shoulder)
- Young is out of the side and faces a 6 month stint on the sidelines with a shoulder injury. At least he will have a nice Plasma TV to entertain himself through the recovery…
St Kilda
B: Jason Gram, Jason Blake, Sam Gilbert
HB: Lenny Hayes, Sam Fisher, James Gwilt
C: Brendon Goddard, Nick Dal Santo, Farren Ray
HF: Andrew McQualter, Justin Koschitzke, Leigh Montagna
F: Brett Peake, Nick Riewoldt, Stephen Milne
Foll: Michael Gardiner, David Armitage, Clinton Jones
I/C: Ben McEvoy, Zac Dawson, Luke Miles, Jarryn Geary
Emg: Alistair Smith, Sean Dempster, Rhys Stanley
In: Dawson, Jones, Gardiner, Hayes
Out: Adam Schneider (inj), Sean Dempster, Adam Pattison, Nick Heyne
- Schneids is not a huge surprise after hurting his knee last week against the Tigers, whilst Dempster, Pattison and Heyne have all been dropped.
- Hayes is the big inclusion, coming back against the Crows, a team he regularly chops against!
WESTERN BULLDOGS v ESSENDON
Western Bulldogs
B: Jarrod Harbrow, Brian Lake, Dylan Addison
HB: Ryan Hargrave, Tom Williams, Lindsay Gilbee
C: Andrejs Everitt, Matthew Boyd, Liam Picken
HF: Callan Ward, Mitch Hahn, Robert Murphy
F: Daniel Giansiracusa, Barry Hall, Jarrad Grant
Foll: Ben Hudson, Ryan Griffen, Daniel Cross
I/C: Brodie Moles, Nathan Eagleton, Liam Jones, Jordan Roughead
Emg: Shaun Higgins, Will Minson, Josh Hill
In: Addison, Everitt, Roughead
Out: Adam Cooney (hamstring), Dale Morris (back), Brad Johnson (ankle)
- Three very big outs for the Dogs, but fortunately only one of them is DT relevant - Adam Cooney, who will likely miss 6 weeks with a hamstring injury. Morris is also done for the year with a significant back injury.
- Roughead is the only somewhat interesting inclusion, however many coaches will be querying the placement of Higgins on the emergency list… will he be a late inclusion???
Essendon
B: Henry Slattery, Michael Hurley, Heath Hocking
HB: David Myers, Cale Hooker, Brent Stanton
C: Courtenay Dempsey, Ben Howlett, Travis Colyer
HF: Leroy Jetta, Jake Carlisle, Jason Winderlich
F: Stewart Crameri, Kyle Hardingham, Angus Monfries
Foll: David Hille, Marcus Marigliani, Jake Melksham
I/C: Patrick Ryder, Kyle Reimers, Brent Prismall, Sam Lonergan
Emg: Jay Neagle, Michael Quinn, Tyson Slattery
In: Colyer, Ryder, Winderlich, Lonergan
Out: Jobe Watson (ankle), Mark McVeigh (knee), Jay Neagle, Michael Quinn
- Watson has succumbed to an ankle injury and that will hurt plenty of teams, whilst McVeigh is also done for the year.
- Ryder is a very good inclusion, whilst Colyer may help bolster some midfield benches.
BRISBANE LIONS v SYDNEY SWANS
Brisbane Lions
B: Jed Adcock, Daniel Merrett, Ashley McGrath
HB: Pearce Hanley, Brent Staker, Cheynee Stiller
C: Michael Rischitelli, Daniel Rich, Jack Redden
HF: James Polkinghorne, Jared Brennan, Luke Power
F: Todd Banfield, Mitchell Clark, Joel Patfull
Foll: Matthew Leuenberger, Simon Black, Tom Rockliff
I/C: Ryan Harwood, Justin Sherman, Albert Proud, Tom Collier
Emg: Amon Buchanan, James Hawksley, Bryce Retzlaff
In: Collier, Proud
Out: Jonathan Brown (groin), Troy Selwood (ribs)
- After a great game last week, Brown pulled up sore and has hence pulled out of this match - a huge blow to many of teams.
- Selwood has played his last game for the club after the Lions announced this week he will be delisted at season’s end. Rumours are also circulating that this could be the last time we see both Brennan and Rischitelli in Lions colours too.
Sydney Swans
B: Paul Bevan, Ted Richards, Rhyce Shaw
HB: Nick Malceski, Heath Grundy, Tadhg Kennelly
C: Lewis Jetta, Brett Kirk, Jarrad McVeigh
HF: Daniel Hannebery, Ryan O’Keefe, Josh Kennedy
F: Trent Dennis-Lane, Adam Goodes, Jesse White
Foll: Mike Pyke, Jude Bolton, Kieren Jack
I/C: Martin Mattner, Brett Meredith, Jarred Moore, Nick Smith
Emg: Gary Rohan, Sam Reid, Patrick Veszpremi
In: O’Keefe, Moore
Out: Shane Mumford (knee), Gary Rohan
- Mummy is a big out for plenty, especially those who traded him in for Sandilands just a fortnight ago! Rohan omission surprises me as i thought he was quite good last week.
- O’Keefe returns after suffering from ’soreness’ on the eve of last week’s game.
RICHMOND v PORT ADELAIDE
Richmond
B: Chris Newman, David Gourdis, Dylan Grimes
HB: Brett Deledio, Kelvin Moore, Daniel Connors
C: Mitch Morton, Dustin Martin, Shane Edwards
HF: Troy Taylor, Jayden Post, Jake King
F: Matt White, Jack Riewoldt, Ben Cousins
Foll: Angus Graham, Shane Tuck, Trent Cotchin
I/C (from): James O’Reilly, Alex Rance, Robin Nahas, Andrew Collins, Andrew Browne, Ben Nason, Dean Polo
In: White, Polo, Nason, Browne, Grimes
Out: Will Thursfield (leg), David Astbury (hip)
- Astbury’s injury may actually hurt a few teams needing him for cover, whilst Nason makes a timely return.
- Dylan Grimes - the brother of Melbourne’s Jack - will make his debut. He is a good medium sized defender, but the last player you need to trade in for the Grand Final.
Port Adelaide
B: Paul Stewart, Alipate Carlile, Andrew Moore
HB: Matthew Broadbent, Troy Chaplin, Tom Logan
C: Kane Cornes, Domenic Cassisi, Travis Boak
HF: Cameron Hitchcock, Jay Schulz, David Rodan
F: Justin Westhoff, Daniel Stewart, Nick Salter
Foll: Dean Brogan, Danyle Pearce, Robbie Gray
I/C (from): Jackson Trengove, Matt Thomas, Jay Nash, Michael Pettigrew, Mitchell Banner, Jason Davenport, Danny Meyer
In: Logan, Pettigrew, Banner, Davenport
Out: Brett Ebert (knee)
- Ebert’s year is over after rupturing his ACL last week, whist Banner makes a timely return, albeit on the extended bench. Davenport’s inclusion may also help a few teams.
MELBOURNE v NORTH MELBOURNE
Melbourne
B: Clint Bartram, Jared Rivers, Colin Garland
HB: Tom Scully, James Frawley, Cale Morton
C: Cameron Bruce, Nathan Jones, Liam Jurrah
HF: Colin Sylvia, Matthew Bate, Lynden Dunn
F: Austin Wonaeamirri, Brad Green, Jack Watts
Foll: Mark Jamar, James McDonald, Brent Moloney
I/C (from): Joel Macdonald, Paul Johnson, Jack Trengove, Jordie McKenzie, Matthew Warnock, Rohan Bail, Michael Newton
In: Johnson, Macdonald, Sylvia, Bate
Out: Jamie Bennell
- Sylvia is back, which is fantastic news after he was a late withdrawal last week. Bate also returns to the side after a five goal game for Casey on the weekend.
- Brad Miller has played his last game for the Demons after being delisted during the week.
North Melbourne
B: Michael Firrito, Scott Thompson, Brady Rawlings
HB: Daniel Pratt, Nathan Grima, Scott McMahon
C: Cruize Garlett, Brent Harvey, Sam Wright
HF: Ryan Bastinac, Corey Jones, Daniel Wells
F: Ben Cunnington, Aaron Edwards, Ben Warren
Foll: Hamish McIntosh, Andrew Swallow, Levi Greenwood
I/C (from): Todd Goldstein, Robbie Tarrant, David Hale, Matt Campbell, Jamie Macmillan, Leigh Harding, Marcus White
In: Jones, Campbell, Tarrant, Goldstein, Macmillan
Out: Leigh Adams (concussion), Lachlan Hansen (hamstring)
- Nothing too exciting here - Hansen misses with a hammy injury, whilst Tarrant returns for one more game this year.
- Corey Jones will play his last game after retiring today at age 29.
Teams: Round 21
GEELONG CATS v CARLTON
Geelong Cats
B: David Wojcinski, Matthew Scarlett, Josh Hunt
HB: Darren Milburn, Andrew Mackie, Harry Taylor
C: Paul Chapman, James Kelly, Jimmy Bartel
HF: Shannon Byrnes, Cameron Mooney, Daniel Menzel
F: Steve Johnson, James Podsiadly, Travis Varcoe
Foll: Mark Blake, Joel Selwood, Gary Ablett
I/C: Corey Enright, Joel Corey, Mathew Stokes, Tom Hawkins
Emg: Taylor Hunt, Jeremy Laidler, Simon Hogan
In: Corey, Blake, Taylor
Out: Jeremy Laidler, Taylor Hunt, Brad Ottens (illness)
- No huge surprises here as the Cats have been talking about this all week - Ottens is the main casualty here to the virus (whilst both Bartel and Selwood are still under clouds).
- Corey will return, however i still wouldnt be picking him as a smokey thanks to his run with injury this year.
Carlton
B: Dennis Armfield, Michael Jamison, Marcus Davies
HB: Jordan Russell, Paul Bower, Bryce Gibbs
C: Heath Scotland, Richard Hadley, Kade Simpson
HF: Jeff Garlett, Jarrad Waite, Marc Murphy
F: Eddie Betts, Lachie Henderson, Shaun Hampson
Foll: Robert Warnock, Chris Judd, Aaron Joseph
I/C: Andrew Carrazzo, David Ellard, Shaun Grigg, Mitch Robinson
Emg: Sam Jacobs, Setanta O’hAilpin, Andrew Walker
No change
ST KILDA v RICHMOND
St Kilda
B: Jason Gram, Jason Blake, Sam Gilbert
HB: Clinton Jones, Sam Fisher, James Gwilt
C: Brendon Goddard, Nick Dal Santo, Farren Ray
HF: Andrew McQualter, Justin Koschitzke, Leigh Montagna
F: Brett Peake, Nick Riewoldt, Stephen Milne
Foll: Ben McEvoy, David Armitage, Adam Schneider
I/C: Sean Dempster, Luke Miles, Adam Pattison, Jarryn Geary
Emg: Tom Simpkin, Rhys Stanley, Nick Heyne
In: Armitage, Pattison, Miles
Out: Robert Eddy (hand), Rhys Stanley, Lenny Hayes (back)
- Very surprising news to see Lenny out of the squad with a back complaint! Very disappointing too! Stanley also makes way.
- Armitage returns to the squad after returning from a knee injury and Miles will debut - he is a running small defender so it will be good to see him before AFL finals, although i wouldnt consider a rookie for your DT this week.
Richmond
B: Chris Newman, David Gourdis, Will Thursfield
HB: Brett Deledio, Kelvin Moore, Daniel Connors
C: Mitch Morton, Dustin Martin, Shane Edwards
HF: Troy Taylor, Jayden Post, Jake King
F: David Astbury, Jack Riewoldt, Ben Cousins
Foll: Angus Graham, Shane Tuck, Trent Cotchin
I/C: James O’Reilly, Alex Rance, Robin Nahas, Andrew Collins
Emg: Dean Polo, Andrew Browne, Ben Nason
In: Nahas, Thursfield, Rance, Cotchin, Taylor
Out: Matt White (leg), Daniel Jackson (leg), Ben Nason, Andrew Browne, Robbie Hicks
- Cotchin returns from injury, whilst Taylor will play his long awaited third game for the year.
- Nason is the surprising omission, whilst Montagna owners will be happy to see Jackon out injured (he typically does a good job at nullifying Joey).
HAWTHORN v FREMANTLE
Hawthorn
B: Brent Guerra, Stephen Gilham, Thomas Murphy
HB: Ben Stratton, Josh Gibson, Grant Birchall
C: Xavier Ellis, Sam Mitchell, Jordan Lewis
HF: Shaun Burgoyne, Lance Franklin, Michael Osborne
F: Cyril Rioli, Jarryd Roughead, Campbell Brown
Foll: Brent Renouf, Luke Hodge, Brad Sewell
I/C: Chance Bateman, Carl Peterson, Wayde Skipper, Brendan Whitecross
Emg: Rick Ladson, Shane Savage, Liam Shiels
In: Rioli
Out: Rhan Hooper (soreness)
- Rioli will return from injury in what could be one of the most lopsided games of the round.
Fremantle
B: Dylan Roberton, Antoni Grover, Greg Broughton
HB: Justin Bollenhagen, Luke McPharlin, Jay van Berlo
C: Garrick Ibbotson, Paul Hasleby, Clancee Pearce
HF: Byron Schammer, Steven Dodd, Michael Walters
F: Ryan Murphy, Michael Johnson, Matthew de Boer
Foll: Kepler Bradley, Nick Suban, Paul Duffield
I/C: Clayton Hinkley, Rhys Palmer, Jesse Crichton, Zac Clarke
Emg: Des Headland, Ryan Crowley, Tim Ruffles
In: Dodd, Murphy, Palmer, Hinkley, van Berlo, Pearce, Bollenhagen
Out: Matthew Pavlich (soreness), Adam McPhee (soreness), Roger Hayden (soreness), David Mundy (soreness), Stephen Hill (soreness), Anthony Morabito (soreness), Nathan Fyfe (soreness)
- As predicted, Freo have gone to town on their list, resting seven of their best players whilst not recalling Sandilands! All of Pavlich, McPhee, Mundy, Hill and Fyfe are included in the list of outs. Owners of these players will now be faced with a very big question - to trade or not to trade!
COLLINGWOOD v ADELAIDE
Collingwood
B: Nick Maxwell, Nathan Brown, Ben Johnson
HB: Harry O’Brien, Leigh Brown, Heath Shaw
C: Sharrod Wellingham, Dane Swan, Alan Toovey
HF: Alan Didak, Travis Cloke, Luke Ball
F: Dayne Beams, John Anthony, Steele Sidebottom
Foll: Darren Jolly, Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas
I/C: Jarryd Blair, Chris Dawes, Tyson Goldsack, Brent Macaffer
Emg: Simon Buckley, Josh Fraser, Paul Medhurst
In: Ball, Goldsack, Anthony
Out: Paul Medhurst, Simon Prestigiacomo (corked thigh), Tarkyn Lockyer
- No surprise to see Medhurst and Lockyer out of the squad, whilst Ball is the big name inclusion.
- Jolly has been named to play, but doubts surely still linger on a late call-up for Fraser.
Adelaide
B: Graham Johncock, Ben Rutten, Scott Stevens
HB: Chris Schmidt, Phil Davis, Michael Doughty
C: Nathan van Berlo, Richard Douglas, Brad Symes
HF: Ricky Henderson, Kurt Tippett, Patrick Dangerfield
F: Jason Porplyzia, Taylor Walker, Rory Sloane
Foll: Ivan Maric, Scott Thompson, Brent Reilly
I/C: David Mackay, James Sellar, Will Young, Matthew Jaensch
Emg: Shaun McKernan, Myke Cook, Brodie Martin
In: Jaensch, Walker, Young
Out: Nathan Bock, Chris Knights (hamstring), Bernie Vince (knee)
- Nathan Bock leads the list of outs thanks to his deferral to the Gold Coast. Vince and Knights are the other two players to make way - neither will play again this year.
SYDNEY SWANS v WESTERN BULLDOGS
Sydney Swans
B: Paul Bevan, Ted Richards, Rhyce Shaw
HB: Nick Malceski, Heath Grundy, Tadhg Kennelly
C: Lewis Jetta, Brett Kirk, Jarrad McVeigh
HF: Daniel Hannebery, Ryan O’Keefe, Josh Kennedy
F: Mike Pyke, Adam Goodes, Jesse White
Foll: Shane Mumford, Jude Bolton, Kieren Jack
I/C: Trent Dennis-Lane, Martin Mattner, Gary Rohan, Nick Smith
Emg: Brett Meredith, Sam Reid, Patrick Veszpremi
In: Smith, Rohan
Out: Ben McGlynn (cheekbone), Jarred Moore (concussion)
- Many coaches will be both surprised and happy to see Rohan return with good timing. McGlynn is a big out for the Swans after his massive game on the weekend.
Western Bulldogs
B: Jarrod Harbrow, Brian Lake, Dale Morris
HB: Ryan Hargrave, Tom Williams, Lindsay Gilbee
C: Daniel Cross, Matthew Boyd, Liam Picken
HF: Brad Johnson, Liam Jones, Robert Murphy
F: Daniel Giansiracusa, Barry Hall, Jarrad Grant
Foll: Ben Hudson, Adam Cooney, Ryan Griffen
I/C: Brodie Moles, Nathan Eagleton, Callan Ward, Mitch Hahn
Emg: Andrejs Everitt, Dylan Addison, Jordan Roughead
In: Hahn, Cooney, Harbrow, Hudson, Grant
Out: Will Minson, Shaun Higgins (calf), Andrejs Everitt, Jordan Roughead, Easton Wood (hamstring)
- Another wealth of changes at the Dogs with Higgins and Roughead the big names going out of the side - Higgins is unlikely to play again this year, whilst Roughy is a week to week prospect.
- Cooney, Harbrow and Grant return, whilst doubt still lingers on their match fitness after suffering from the flu this past week.
PORT ADELAIDE v MELBOURNE
Port Adelaide
B: Paul Stewart, Alipate Carlile, Andrew Moore
HB: Nick Salter, Troy Chaplin, Danny Meyer
C: Kane Cornes, Domenic Cassisi, Travis Boak
HF: Cameron Hitchcock, Jay Schulz, David Rodan
F: Justin Westhoff, Daniel Stewart, Brett Ebert
Foll: Dean Brogan, Danyle Pearce, Robbie Gray
I/C (from): Jason Davenport, Matthew Broadbent, Matt Thomas, Jack Trengove, Jay Nash, Michael Pettigrew, Marlon Motlop
In: Nash, Pettigrew, D.Stewart, M.Motlop
Out: Tom Logan (concussion)
- Nothing much of news here - Stewart is a timely inclusion for plenty of forward lines, but nothing else here is of real DT relevance.
Melbourne
B: Colin Garland, Matthew Warnock, Clint Bartram
HB: Cameron Bruce, James Frawley, Jared Rivers
C: Brad Green, James McDonald, Nathan Jones
HF: Jack Watts, Liam Jurrah, Colin Sylvia
F: Austin Wonaeamirri, Lynden Dunn, Jamie Bennell
Foll: Mark Jamar, Jack Trengove, Tom Scully
I/C (from): Cale Morton, Brent Moloney, Paul Johnson, Jordie McKenzie, Michael Newton, Rohan Bail, Matthew Bate
In: Moloney, Newton, Bate, Warnock, Morton
Out: Aaron Davey (leg), Joel Macdonald (ankle)
- Davey is out for the rest of the year with a broken leg, whilst Moloney finally returns from his own injury. It is also good to see Bate and Morton back in the side.
ESSENDON v BRISBANE LIONS
Essendon
B: Henry Slattery, Michael Hurley, Heath Hocking
HB: Stewart Crameri, Cale Hooker, Brent Stanton
C: Courtenay Dempsey, Jobe Watson, Mark McVeigh
HF: Leroy Jetta, Jake Carlisle, Angus Monfries
F: Patrick Ryder, Jay Neagle, Kyle Hardingham
Foll: David Hille, Ben Howlett, Jake Melksham
I/C (from): Sam Lonergan, Brent Prismall, Travis Colyer, David Myers, Kyle Reimers, Marcus Marigliani, Michael Quinn
In: Prismall, Jetta, Marigliani, Myers, Quinn
Out: Ricky Dyson (knee), David Zaharakis (knee)
New: Marcus Marigliani (Frankston/rookie list)
- Prismall makes a possible return whilst Marigliani is another Essendon rookie named to debut. Too late in the season to consider though, sorry Marcus.
Brisbane Lions
B: Jed Adcock, Daniel Merrett, Ashley McGrath
HB: Pearce Hanley, Joel Patfull, Cheynee Stiller
C: Michael Rischitelli, Daniel Rich, Jack Redden
HF: James Polkinghorne, Jonathan Brown, Luke Power
F: Todd Banfield, Mitchell Clark, Jared Brennan
Foll: Matthew Leuenberger, Simon Black, Tom Rockliff
I/C (from): Ryan Harwood, Justin Sherman, Brent Staker, Troy Selwood, Tom Collier, James Hawksley, Travis Johnstone
In: Brown, Selwood, Sherman, Collier, Hawksley
Out: Matt Maguire (ankle), Albert Proud (illness)
- Brown has been named after seemingly passing his fitness test, although he will surely be tested again before the game, so ensure you have an emergency present.
- The Goose comes out of the side at just the wrong time, which may hurt some defences. Fortunately, most people have traded him out by now…
WEST COAST v NORTH MELBOURNE
West Coast
B: Will Schofield, Eric Mackenzie, Ashley Smith
HB: Beau Waters, Matthew Spangher, Shannon Hurn
C: Andrew Embley, Chris Masten, Matt Rosa
HF: Luke Shuey, Josh Kennedy, Andrew Strijk
F: Ashton Hams, Callum Wilson, Mark LeCras
Foll: Dean Cox, Scott Selwood, Brad Ebert
I/C (from): Tim Houlihan, Jordan Jones, Quinten Lynch, Patrick McGinnity, Nic Naitanui, Koby Stevens, Lewis Stevenson
In: Hurn, Hams, Houlihan, Masten, J.Jones, Stevenson
Out: Adam Selwood (shoulder), Tom Swift, Brad Sheppard (shoulder)
New: Jordan Jones (Geelong Falcons)
- Hams makes his return from suspension, whilst Masten and Stevenson are some returning youngsters. Jordan Jones will make his debut if he makes the cut from the extended bench.
- Selwood and Sheppard are both out with injuries - i am unsure at this point whether they are season ending.
North Melbourne
B: Michael Firrito, Scott Thompson, Brady Rawlings
HB: Daniel Pratt, Nathan Grima, Scott McMahon
C: Leigh Adams, Brent Harvey, Sam Wright
HF: Ryan Bastinac, Aaron Edwards, Daniel Wells
F: Ben Cunnington, Lachlan Hansen, Ben Warren
Foll: Hamish McIntosh, Andrew Swallow, Levi Greenwood
I/C (from): Leigh Harding, Cruize Garlett, David Hale, Corey Jones, Matt Campbell, Marcus White, Jamie Macmillan
In: Jones, Hale, Campbell, White, MacMillan
Out: Lindsay Thomas (knee), Todd Goldstein (calf)
- Nothing too exciting here (which isn’t a bad thing!) - Goldstein makes way with a calf injury, which MacMillan returns. Thomas is also out with a knee injury that has ended his year.
The Teams: Round 20
ESSENDON v COLLINGWOOD
Essendon
B: Henry Slattery, Michael Hurley, Heath Hocking
HB: Kyle Reimers, Cale Hooker, Mark McVeigh
C: Stewart Crameri, Jobe Watson, David Zaharakis
HF: Angus Monfries, Jake Carlisle, Travis Colyer
F: Kyle Hardingham, Jay Neagle, Patrick Ryder
Foll: David Hille, Jake Melksham, Ben Howlett
I/C: Brent Stanton, Ricky Dyson, Sam Lonergan, Courtenay Dempsey
Emg: Leroy Jetta, Brent Prismall, David Myers
In: Dyson, Slattery, Melksham, Carlisle, Crameri
Out: Alwyn Davey (arm), Jason Winderlich (hand), Brent Prismall, Bachar Houli, Dustin Fletcher (hamstring)
New: Jake Carlisle (Calder Canons), Stewart Crameri (Bendigo Bombers)
- As usual, the Bombers have gone to town on their list with usual scapegoats Houli and Prismall dropped.
- Winderlich, Davey and Fletcher are all out with injuries and it is unlikely we will see any of them again this season.
- Melksham returns to boost benches and Carlisle and Crameri will both debut, unfortunately at the wrong end of the season to have any DT relevance. Carlisle is a tall defender and Crameri and medium sized defender.
Collingwood
B: Nick Maxwell, Simon Prestigiacomo, Ben Johnson
HB: Harry O’Brien, Nathan Brown, Heath Shaw
C: Sharrod Wellingham, Dane Swan, Alan Toovey
HF: Alan Didak, Travis Cloke, Tarkyn Lockyer
F: Dayne Beams, Leigh Brown, Steele Sidebottom
Foll: Darren Jolly, Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas
I/C: Paul Medhurst, Brent Macaffer, Chris Dawes, Jarryd Blair
Emg: Josh Fraser, Luke Rounds, Simon Buckley
In: Medhurst, Brown, Blair, Lockyer
Out: Leon Davis (quad), Luke Ball (hip), Ben Reid (quad), Tyson Goldsack (ankle)
- Some big outs for Collingwood with Ball and Davis being large DT casualties.
- Medhurst will return, but surely that’s irrelevant now. Blair will be a good inclusion for some teams though.
CARLTON v RICHMOND
Carlton
B: Aaron Joseph, Michael Jamison, Marcus Davies
HB: Jordan Russell, Paul Bower, Dennis Armfield
C: Heath Scotland, Chris Judd, Kade Simpson
HF: Jeff Garlett, Lachie Henderson, Bryce Gibbs
F: Shaun Hampson, Jarrad Waite, Eddie Betts
Foll: Robert Warnock, Andrew Carrazzo, Marc Murphy
I/C: David Ellard, Shaun Grigg, Richard Hadley, Mitch Robinson
Emg: Joe Anderson, Setanta O’hAilpin, Andrew Walker
No change
Richmond
B: Chris Newman, David Gourdis, David Astbury
HB: Brett Deledio, Kelvin Moore, Daniel Connors
C: Mitch Morton, Dustin Martin, Shane Edwards
HF: Ben Nason, Jayden Post, Jake King
F: Matt White, Jack Riewoldt, Ben Cousins
Foll: Angus Graham, Shane Tuck, Daniel Jackson
I/C: James O’Reilly, Andrew Browne, Robbie Hicks, Andrew Collins
Emg: Robin Nahas, Alex Rance, Dean Polo
In: Collins, Gourdis, Post, O’Reilly
Out: Luke McGuane (virus), Will Thursfield , Mitch Farmer (knee), Jeromey Webberley
New: Jamie O’Reilly (County Down, Ireland)
- Two big outs for plenty of defence benches with Farmer and Webberley to miss.
- O’Reilly - a Irish import will get his AFL debut. He has been groomed as a defender and is more a project player than anything else, so don’t expect much DT scoring from him in his first outing.
FREMANTLE v SYDNEY SWANS
Fremantle
B: Dylan Roberton, Antoni Grover, Greg Broughton
HB: Stephen Hill, Luke McPharlin, Roger Hayden
C: Garrick Ibbotson, David Mundy, Nat Fyfe
HF: Byron Schammer, Matthew Pavlich, Michael Walters
F: Adam McPhee, Michael Johnson, Matthew de Boer
Foll: Kepler Bradley, Nick Suban, Paul Duffield
I/C: Paul Hasleby, Anthony Morabito, Jessie Crichton, Zac Clarke
Emg: Justin Bollenhagen, Clancee Pearce, Jay van Berlo
In: Clarke, Walters, Schammer
Out: Jay van Berlo, Rhys Palmer, Justin Bollenhagen
- The HUGE news here is that lack of Sandilands! The big 211 has not been named for the second week in a row, burning plenty of coaches! My advice is to trade if you are in an elimination final!
- Palmer and Bollenhagen are victims of the side’s thrashing last week.
Sydney Swans
B: Paul Bevan, Ted Richards, Rhyce Shaw
HB: Nick Malceski, Heath Grundy, Tadhg Kennelly
C: Lewis Jetta, Brett Kirk, Jarrad McVeigh
HF: Ben McGlynn, Ryan O’Keefe, Josh Kennedy
F: Mike Pyke, Adam Goodes, Jarred Moore
Foll: Shane Mumford, Jude Bolton, Kieren Jack
I/C: Trent Dennis-Lane, Daniel Hannebery, Martin Mattner, Jesse White
Emg: Brett Meredith, Sam Reid, Gary Rohan
No change
WESTERN BULLDOGS v GEELONG CATS
Western Bulldogs
B: Ryan Hargrave, Brian Lake, Dale Morris
HB: Robert Murphy, Tom Williams, Lindsay Gilbee
C: Callan Ward, Matthew Boyd, Liam Picken
HF: Andrejs Everitt, Liam Jones, Brad Johnson
F: Shaun Higgins, Barry Hall, Daniel Giansiracusa
Foll: Will Minson, Ryan Griffen, Daniel Cross
I/C: Nathan Eagleton, Brodie Moles, Jordan Roughead, Easton Wood
Emg: Mitch Hahn, Josh Hill, Dylan Addison
In: Murphy, Minson, Higgins, Ward
Out: Adam Cooney (virus), Ben Hudson (virus), Josh Hill, Jarrad Grant (soreness)
- We all know about the virus spreading around Whitten Oval, and at this stage only Cooney and Hudson will miss thanks to the cold. There are also still doubts surrounding Moles, Gilbee, Morris, Hargrave and the returning Higgins and Murphy.
Geelong Cats
B: Darren Milburn, Matthew Scarlett, Josh Hunt
HB: Andrew Mackie, Tom Lonergan, Corey Enright
C: Paul Chapman, James Kelly, David Wojcinski
HF: Mathew Stokes, Cameron Mooney, Travis Varcoe
F: Steve Johnson, James Podsiadly, Jimmy Bartel
Foll: Brad Ottens, Joel Selwood, Gary Ablett
I/C: Joel Corey, Shannon Byrnes, Tom Hawkins, Taylor Hunt
Emg: Simon Hogan, Ryan Gamble, Daniel Menzel
In: Hunt, Wojcinski
Out: Cameron Ling (hamstring), Harry Taylor (shoulder)
- Geelong haven’t made the plethora of changes perhaps expected of them, but both Ling and Taylor should each miss a week with injuries. Fortunately, neither of these are particularly DT relevant! It could be much worse!
PORT ADELAIDE v WEST COAST
Port Adelaide
B: Paul Stewart, Alipate Carlile, Tom Logan
HB: Nick Salter, Troy Chaplin, Danny Meyer
C: Kane Cornes, Domenic Cassisi, Travis Boak
HF: Cameron Hitchcock, Jay Schulz, David Rodan
F: Justin Westhoff, Daniel Stewart, Brett Ebert
Foll: Dean Brogan, Danyle Pearce, Robbie Gray
I/C: Matt Broadbent, Andrew Moore, Matt Thomas, Jackson Trengove
Emg: Mitch Banner, Scott Harding, Jasper Pittard
In: Salter, P. Stewart
Out: Mitch Banner, Nathan Krakouer
- Krakouer has deservedly been dropped after his abysmal showing against the Saints (could that have been the last time we see him in Port colours?) and has been joined on the sidelines by Banner.
West Coast
B: Will Schofield, Eric MacKenzie, Ashley Smith
HB: Beau Waters, Matthew Spangher, Brad Sheppard
C: Andrew Embley, Adam Selwood, Matt Rosa
HF: Brad Ebert, Josh Kennedy, Andrew Strijk
F: Nic Naitanui, Callum Wilson, Mark LeCras
Foll: Dean Cox, Scott Selwood, Luke Shuey
I/C: Koby Stevens, Quinten Lynch, Patrick McGinnity, Tom Swift
Emg: Tim Houlihan, Ben McKinley, Lewis Stevenson
In: Adam Selwood, Waters, MacKenzie, Wilson, Shuey
Out: Matt Priddis (ankle), Ben McKinley , Brett Jones (fractured cheekbone), Mitchell Brown (groin), Lewis Stevenson
- Plenty of positive inclusions here with Selwood and Waters both named. Shuey is the exciting news for all the players who have angrily held onto him all season! It seems he is returning at the right time of year and hopefully he can provide adequate cover if needed.
- On the other hand, the absence of Priddis will certainly hurt a few teams.
BRISBANE LIONS v ADELAIDE
Brisbane Lions
B: Brent Staker, Daniel Merrett, Ashley McGrath
HB: Jed Adcock, Matt Maguire, Pearce Hanley
C: Jared Brennan, Daniel Rich, Michael Rischitelli
HF: Luke Power, Mitchell Clark, Albert Proud
F: Todd Banfield, Jonathan Brown, Tom Rockliff
Foll: Matthew Leuenberger, Joel Patfull, Jack Redden
I/C (from): Simon Black, Cheynee Stiller, Travis Johnstone, Ryan Harwood, James Polkinghorne, Tom Collier, Aaron Cornelius
In: Collier, Polkinghorne, Johnstone
Out: Nil
Adelaide
B: Graham Johncock, Ben Rutten, Phil Davis
HB: Michael Doughty, Nathan Bock, Brad Symes
C: Nathan van Berlo, Richard Douglas, David Mackay
HF: Rory Sloane, Ricky Henderson, Bernie Vince
F: Chris Knights, Kurt Tippett, Jason Porplyzia
Foll: Ivan Maric, Scott Thompson, Brent Reilly
I/C (from): Taylor Walker, Scott Stevens, James Sellar, Patrick Dangerfield, Shaun McKernan, Will Young, Chris Schmidt
In: Sellar, Dangerfield, McKernan, Davis, Young
Out: Jonathon Griffin (ankle), Brodie Martin
- Some exciting young inclusions for Adelaide with McKernan, Davis and Dangerfield all returning, although this will unlikely help too many teams.
HAWTHORN v MELBOURNE
Hawthorn
B: Brent Guerra, Stephen Gilham, Thomas Murphy
HB: Ben Stratton, Josh Gibson, Grant Birchall
C: Chance Bateman, Sam Mitchell, Rhan Hooper
HF: Jordan Lewis, Lance Franklin, Shaun Burgoyne
F: Michael Osborne, Jarryd Roughead, Wayde Skipper
Foll: Brent Renouf, Luke Hodge, Brad Sewell
I/C (from): Campbell Brown, Xavier Ellis, Rick Ladson, Jarryd Morton, Garry Moss, Carl Peterson, Brendan Whitecross
In: Skipper, Brown, Hooper, Morton, Whitecross, Peterson
Out: Clinton Young (soreness), Simon Taylor, Matt Suckling
- Fortunately the ‘Hodge Out’ rumours were false and the only real big out for Hawthorn is Young.
- Skipper returns just in time to cover for Sandilands and Peterson also looks a likely inclusion.
Melbourne
B: Colin Garland, Jared Rivers, Clint Bartram
HB: Joel Macdonald, James Frawley, Rohan Bail
C: Tom Scully, James McDonald, Cameron Bruce
HF: Jamie Bennell, Jack Watts, Austin Wonaeamirri
F: Liam Jurrah, Brad Green, Colin Sylvia
Foll: Mark Jamar, Lynden Dunn, Aaron Davey
I/C (from): Jordie McKenzie, Nathan Jones, Jack Trengove, Brad Miller, Matthew Warnock, Paul Johnson, Cale Morton
In: Miller, Warnock, Morton
Out: Nil
NORTH MELBOURNE V ST KILDA
North Melbourne
B: Michael Firrito, Scott Thompson, Brady Rawlings
HB: Daniel Pratt, Nathan Grima, Scott McMahon
C: Leigh Adams, Brent Harvey, Sam Wright
HF: Ryan Bastinac, Aaron Edwards, Daniel Wells
F: Ben Cunnington, Lachlan Hansen, Lindsay Thomas
Foll: Hamish McIntosh, Andrew Swallow, Levi Greenwood
I/C (from): Todd Goldstein, Leigh Harding, Matt Campbell, Cruize Garlett, Ben Warren, Marcus White, David Hale
In: Hale, Campbell, Warren, White
Out: Jamie MacMillan (calf)
- Nothing too exciting coming in (in fact, that bench looks like the list of ‘players to watch’ at North prior to round one this year… oh how things have changed!).
- MacMillan is the only player out at this stage, although this shouldn’t hurt too many coaches.
St Kilda
B: Jason Gram, Jason Blake, Sam Gilbert
HB: Clinton Jones, Sam Fisher, James Gwilt
C: Brendon Goddard, Nick Dal Santo, Farren Ray
HF: Andrew McQualter, Justin Koschitzke, Leigh Montagna
F: Brett Peake, Nick Riewoldt, Stephen Milne
Foll: Ben McEvoy, Lenny Hayes, Adam Schneider
I/C (from): Jarryn Geary, Adam Pattison, Jack Steven, Luke Miles, Sean Dempster, Robert Eddy, Rhys Stanley
In: Pattison, Miles, Steven, Stanley
Out: Michael Gardiner (hamstring)
New: Luke Miles (Swan Districts)
- All we know at this stage is that Gardiner is out - Lyon was very unconvincing during the week as to whether he would bring in a runner or another ruckman. Ideally, Steven would be the best inclusion (or Stanley as a smokey), but expect Pattison to get the nod, despite not playing VFL on the weekend.
The Teams: Round 19
Dan here, filling in for Toby this week with the team selection news. Let’s see how we’re all shaping up for the first week of DT finals…
ESSENDON v CARLTON
Essendon
B: Heath Hocking, Dustin Fletcher, Courtenay Dempsey
HB: Mark McVeigh, Michael Hurley, Cale Hooker
C: David Zaharakis, Jobe Watson, Brent Stanton
HF: Kyle Hardingham, Jay Neagle, Travis Colyer
F: Angus Monfries, David Hille, Alwyn Davey
Foll: Patrick Ryder, Bachar Houli, Ben Howlett
I/C: Kyle Reimers, Sam Lonergan, Jason Winderlich, Brent Prismall
Emg: Nathan Lovett-Murray, David Myers, Jake Carlisle
In: Winderlich
Out: Scott Gumbleton (ribs)
- Gumbleton owners have done well to get 18 weeks out of him. Kudos to him on being a fine cash cow in 2010.
- Hardingham plays his third games this week. He adds plenty of excitement to their forward line, but is only mid eligible in DT.
- Winderlich returns for the Bombers. He’d be a pretty crazy sort of unique to have, though I don’t mind him as a player.
Carlton
B: Jordan Russell, Michael Jamison, Aaron Joseph
HB: Dennis Armfield, Paul Bower, Shaun Grigg
C: Heath Scotland, Chris Judd, Bryce Gibbs
HF: Kade Simpson, Lachie Henderson, Marc Murphy
F: Shaun Hampson, Jarrad Waite, Eddie Betts
Foll: Robert Warnock, Andrew Carrazzo, David Ellard
I/C: Marcus Davies, Jeff Garlett, Richard Hadley, Mitch Robinson
Emg: Joe Anderson, Mark Austin, Setanta O’hAilpin
In: Hadley, Armfield, Davies, Robinson
Out: Brad Fisher, Andrew Walker, Chris Johnson, Chris Yarran (ankle)
New: Marcus Davies (Tasmania U18)
- The new guy, Davies was one I was keeping an eye on in the pre-season. I thought he was set for some early games this year, but better late than never. He’s back eligible.
- David Ellard plays his third game for the season (after being a late in last week). He’s back eligible too.
SYDNEY SWANS v HAWTHORN
Sydney Swans
B: Paul Bevan, Ted Richards, Rhyce Shaw
HB: Nick Malceski, Heath Grundy, Tadhg Kennelly
C: Daniel Hannebery, Brett Kirk, Jarrad McVeigh
HF: Ben McGlynn, Ryan O’Keefe, Josh Kennedy
F: Mike Pyke, Adam Goodes, Jarred Moore
Foll: Shane Mumford, Jude Bolton, Kieren Jack
I/C: Trent Dennis-Lane, Lewis Jetta, Martin Mattner, Jesse White
Emg: Nathan Gordon, Brett Meredith, Sam Reid
In: Dennis-Lane
Out: Brett Meredith
- TDL comes in for this third game as a rookie priced forward. He’s look relatively patchy in his two games so far, but he kicked four goals in only half a game for the reserves last week (was pulled from that game half way through to be on standby for the Swans).
Hawthorn
B: Stephen Gilham, Ben Stratton, Thomas Murphy
HB: Grant Birchall, Josh Gibson, Brent Guerra
C: Chance Bateman, Sam Mitchell, Xavier Ellis
HF: Shaun Burgoyne, Lance Franklin, Clinton Young
F: Michael Osborne, Jarryd Roughead, Jordan Lewis
Foll: Brent Renouf, Luke Hodge, Brad Sewell
I/C: Rick Ladson, Garry Moss, Matt Suckling, Simon Taylor
Emg: Jarryd Morton, Ryan Schoenmakers, Brendan Whitecross
In: Moss, Taylor, Suckling
Out: Wayde Skipper, Cyril Rioli (suspension), Brendan Whitecross
- I’ll get to the big news in the next game, but GREAT, there goes my ruck coverage! Skipper is way better than Taylor! Get a grip, Clarko!
- Rioli will cop his two weeks at the wrong time of year for his owners. However, those owners could probably consider themselves lucky he’s only out for two. I know that my SC team was planning for a finals series without him.
NORTH MELBOURNE v FREMANTLE
North Melbourne
B: Michael Firrito, Scott Thompson, Brady Rawlings
HB: Daniel Pratt, Nathan Grima, Scott McMahon
C: Leigh Adams, Brent Harvey, Sam Wright
HF: Ryan Bastinac, Aaron Edwards, Daniel Wells
F: Ben Cunnington, Lachlan Hansen, Lindsay Thomas
Foll: Hamish McIntosh, Andrew Swallow, Levi Greenwood
I/C: Todd Goldstein, Leigh Harding, Jamie Macmillan, Cruize Garlett
Emg: Gavin Urquhart, David Hale, Marcus White
In: Pratt, Wells, Grima, Garlett
Out: Josh Smith, Ed Lower (collarbone), Marcus White, Ben Speight
- A couple of rookie priced options in White and Speight get the chop this week. You’d be really scraping if you were looking to bring in either of them for the run home though. Speight’s interchange on the weekend was quite comical though.
Fremantle
B: Dylan Roberton, Antoni Grover, Greg Broughton
HB: Justin Bollenhagen, Luke McPharlin, Roger Hayden
C: Garrick Ibbotson, David Mundy, Nathan Fyfe
HF: Jay van Berlo, Matthew Pavlich, Stephen Hill
F: Adam McPhee, Michael Johnson, Matthew de Boer
Foll: Kepler Bradley, Nick Suban, Paul Duffield
I/C: Rhys Palmer, Anthony Morabito, Paul Hasleby, Jesse Crichton
Emg: Michael Walters, Clayton Hinkley, Zac Clarke
In: Bradley, Palmer, Roberton
Out: Aaron Sandilands (foot), Hayden Ballantyne (foot), Chris Tarrant (knee)
- Holy freaking crap! Sandilands is out! My Trengove to Prato trade for a cash grab really stings now. I figured, what are the chances of two of Sandilands, Hille and Skipper missing in the run home? Massive DT implications. Well done to those of you who have Warnock, Roughead or Trengove on the bench (though keep an eye on the Bulldogs and Port’s final team when it’s announced tomorrow arvo)! The relieving news is that he’s only expected to miss this week.
- Balla will be out for a few weeks with a foot problem. The annoying goal sneak has burnt his owners at the wrong time of year.
- You could be doing a lot worse than having Roberton as back coverage. He doesn’t score that great, but he’s had a few more games than I thought he was going to get initially.
- Jesse Crichton is in for this third game for the Dockers. The Tasweigan is an $89,500 midfield option. He could be pushed out of the team as the H & A season draws to a close, so tread carefully.
GEELONG CATS v COLLINGWOOD
Geelong Cats
B: Darren Milburn, Matthew Scarlett, Josh Hunt
HB: James Kelly, Harry Taylor, Corey Enright
C: Jimmy Bartel, Cameron Ling, Andrew Mackie
HF: Paul Chapman, Cameron Mooney, Steve Johnson
F: Mathew Stokes, Tom Hawkins, Travis Varcoe
Foll: Brad Ottens, Joel Selwood, Gary Ablett
I/C: Joel Corey, David Wojcinski, Shannon Byrnes, Tom Lonergan
Emg: James Podsiadly, Trent West, Simon Hogan
In: Bartel
Out: Trent West
- Bartel is back after his rest/injury/whatever they were dressing that up as for this massive clash. Go Jimmy!
- Pods? What the hell? Stuck on the emergencies list.
- There’s been a lot of speculation about Geelong resting players in the run home, but it’s clear that they want to have a crack at Collingwood this week. Maybe next week…
Collingwood
B: Nick Maxwell, Simon Prestigiacomo, Ben Reid
HB: Harry O’Brien, Tyson Goldsack, Heath Shaw
C: Sharrod Wellingham, Dane Swan, Alan Toovey
HF: Luke Ball, Travis Cloke, Leon Davis
F: Dayne Beams, Leigh Brown, Steele Sidebottom
Foll: Darren Jolly, Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas
I/C: Alan Didak, Ben Johnson, Brent Macaffer, Chris Dawes
Emg: Tarkyn Lockyer, Nathan Brown, Jarryd Blair
In: Shaw, Prestigiacomo
Out: Nathan Brown, Jarryd Blair
- Heater makes his way back in for the Pies, much to the relief of his patient owners.
- Presti is back too! I hope you didn’t miss him too much last week.
- Jarryd Blair has done alright in his games so far with a couple of good tagging jobs. Probably not a bad move to send him back to the magoos at this stage though.
WEST COAST v BRISBANE LIONS
West Coast
B: Will Schofield, Matthew Spangher, Brett Jones
HB: Beau Waters, Mitchell Brown, Brad Sheppard
C: Andrew Embley, Matt Priddis, Matt Rosa
HF: Brad Ebert, Josh Kennedy, Andrew Strijk
F: Mark LeCras, Quinten Lynch, Ben McKinley
Foll: Dean Cox, Scott Selwood, Tom Swift
I/C: Patrick McGinnity, Nic Naitanui, Ashley Smith, Lewis Stevenson
Emg: Callum Wilson, Koby Stevens, Beau Wilkes
In: McKinley, Spangher
Out: Eric Mackenzie (suspension), Chris Masten (ankle)
- Nothing too interesting here…Koby Stevens name pops up as an emergency.
- Brisbane Lions
B: Joel Patfull, Daniel Merrett, Ashley McGrath
HB: Pearce Hanley, Matt Maguire, Cheynee Stiller
C: Jack Redden, Tom Rockliff, Jared Brennan
HF: Daniel Rich, Mitchell Clark, Luke Power
F: Albert Proud, Jonathan Brown, Brent Staker
Foll: Matthew Leuenberger, Michael Rischitelli, Simon Black
I/C: Jed Adcock, Ryan Harwood, Todd Banfield, Aaron Cornelius
Emg: Travis Johnstone, James Hawksley, Jesse O’Brien
In: Maguire, Adcock, Cornelius
Out: Xavier Clarke (hamstring), Justin Sherman, Brendan Fevola (groin)
- Maguire is back in and could be decent coverage for those who have held onto him. You’ll just be hoping that Vossy holds onto him too in the run home.
- As quick as he’s in, he’s out. I really feel bad for X, but his body just struggles to get right.
- Call me crazy, but with his monumental price drop, Fev could be a pretty cheap 7th forward in 2011. Or he could be a hack past his used by date. He’ll be one to keep an eye on.
ST KILDA v PORT ADELAIDE
St Kilda
B: Robert Eddy, Jason Blake, Sam Gilbert
HB: Jason Gram, Sam Fisher, James Gwilt
C: Brendon Goddard, Nick Dal Santo, Farren Ray
HF: Andrew McQualter, Justin Koschitzke, Leigh Montagna
F: Sean Dempster, Nick Riewoldt, Stephen Milne
Foll: Michael Gardiner, Lenny Hayes, Adam Schneider
I/C (from): Ben McEvoy, Jarryn Geary, Clinton Jones, Brett Peake, Rhys Stanley, Tom Simpkin, Luke Miles
In: McQualter, Eddy, Jones, Miles, Simpkin, Stanley
Out: Zac Dawson (hand), Jack Steven, Tom Lynch
New: Tom Simpkin (Geelong Falcons/rookie list)
- Miles and Simpkin make their way onto the extended bench. I find it really interesting that the Saints listed Simpkin as a new player, but didn’t mention Miles, who is also yet to debut. Is this a slip up indicating that Simpkin is going to get the nod?
- If he makes the cut, the timing couldn’t be better for Stanley owners with Sandilands missing this week. However, he’s only likely to score you 20 points anyway.
- For as much enthusiasm for Lynch’s debut as Toby had last week leading into the game, I was at the other end of the scale, and that feeling was confirmed watching his lacklustre efforts against the Bombers (I’m not a fan, if you can’t already tell).
Port Adelaide
B: Paul Stewart, Alipate Carlile, Tom Logan
HB: Nathan Krakouer, Troy Chaplin, Danny Meyer
C: Kane Cornes, Domenic Cassisi, Travis Boak
HF: Cameron Hitchcock, Jay Schulz, David Rodan
F: Justin Westhoff, Daniel Stewart, Brett Ebert
Foll: Dean Brogan, Danyle Pearce, Robbie Gray
I/C (from): Mitchell Banner, Matthew Broadbent, Andrew Moore, Jackson Trengove, Scott Harding, Jasper Pittard, Matt Thomas
In: Logan, Harding, Thomas, Pittard
Out: Nick Salter (calf)
New: Jasper Pittard (Geelong Falcons)
- Jasper “Don’t Call Me McMillan” Pittard is named on an extended bench for his debut. The boy genius would be a sneaky chance of cracking a game just from looking at that list too. He’s listed as a defender in DT.
- Sandilands owners looking for coverage will want to make sure Trengove is named in their final 22 tomorrow afternoon.
MELBOURNE v RICHMOND
Melbourne
B: Colin Garland, Jared Rivers, Clint Bartram
HB: Rohan Bail, James Frawley, Joel Macdonald
C: Brent Moloney, James McDonald, Jordie McKenzie
HF: Liam Jurrah, Jack Watts, Tom Scully
F: Jamie Bennell, Lynden Dunn, Brad Green
Foll: Mark Jamar, Colin Sylvia, Aaron Davey
I/C (from): Cameron Bruce, Austin Wonaeamirri, Nathan Jones, Jack Trengove, Paul Johnson, Cale Morton, Brad Miller
In: Miller, Moloney, Trengove
Out: -
- Trengove named on an extended bench is about the only interest here, though I don’t imagine too many would have held onto him for this long.
Richmond
B: Chris Newman, Will Thursfield, David Astbury
HB: Brett Deledio, Kelvin Moore, Daniel Connors
C: Mitch Morton, Dustin Martin, Shane Edwards
HF: Ben Nason, Mitch Farmer, Jake King
F: Matt White, Jack Riewoldt, Ben Cousins
Foll: Angus Graham, Shane Tuck, Daniel Jackson
I/C (from): Andrew Collins, Andrew Browne, Tyrone Vickery, Jeromey Webberley, Robbie Hicks, Luke McGuane, Alex Rance
In: Collins, Rance, Vickery
Out: -
- Not much interest here either. Webberley should keep his spot on the extended bench and if Hicks can crack a second game he could be a viable FWD/MID option, purely for his DP capabilities and that he’d be a live body (and after so many went nuts on trading in McNeil).
ADELAIDE v WESTERN BULLDOGS
Adelaide
B: Graham Johncock, Ben Rutten, Scott Stevens
HB: Michael Doughty, Nathan Bock, Nathan van Berlo
C: Brad Symes, Bernie Vince, David Mackay
HF: Ricky Henderson, Taylor Walker, Chris Knights
F: Rory Sloane, Kurt Tippett, Richard Douglas
Foll: Jonathon Griffin, Scott Thompson, Brent Reilly
I/C (from): Phil Davis, Ivan Maric, James Sellar, Jason Porplyzia, Brodie Martin, Chris Schmidt, Matthew Jaensch
In: Johncock, Knights, Sellar, Martin, Davis
Out: Patrick Dangerfield (hand), Jack Gunston
- Johncock is straight back in after serving his suspension.
- Davis gets a look in on the extended bench. It looks pretty dicey as to whether or not he’ll get named in the final 22 though. Monitor this situation.
- Dangerfield will miss just this week, according to the Crows, with a hand injury.
- Gunston is dropped for the second time this year. He’ll get to that third game eventually. Talented player.
- Schmidt and Jaensch are a couple of DT bench options that could be sweating on keeping their spot in the final 22 this week.
Western Bulldogs
B: Easton Wood, Brian Lake, Dale Morris
HB: Ryan Hargrave, Tom Williams, Lindsay Gilbee
C: Daniel Cross, Matthew Boyd, Liam Picken
HF: Robert Murphy, Liam Jones, Brad Johnson
F: Jarrad Grant, Barry Hall, Daniel Giansiracusa
Foll: Ben Hudson, Adam Cooney, Ryan Griffen
I/C (from): Dylan Addison, Nathan Eagleton, Andrejs Everitt, Shaun Higgins, Josh Hill, Brodie Moles, Jordan Roughead
In: Addison, Hill, Eagleton
Out: -
- Not much interesting here. Jordan Roughead should keep his spot this week, which is great news for his owners that also have Sandilands.
Teams: Round 18
ESSENDON v ST KILDA
Essendon
B: Heath Hocking, Dustin Fletcher, Courtenay Dempsey
HB: Mark McVeigh, Michael Hurley, Kyle Reimers
C: David Zaharakis, Jobe Watson, Travis Colyer
HF: Kyle Hardingham, Scott Gumbleton, Brent Stanton
F: Angus Monfries, Jay Neagle, Sam Lonergan
Foll: Patrick Ryder, Bachar Houli, Ben Howlett
I/C: Cale Hooker, Alwyn Davey, David Hille, Brent Prismall
Emg: Leroy Jetta, David Myers, Nathan Lovett-Murray
In: Hille, Lonergan
Out: Jason Winderlich (hand), Leroy Jetta
- No massive surprises here as Essendon had already flagged their intentions coming into this game. Hille returns after missing seven games, whilst Winderlich has been put in for surgery. Surprisingly, NLM did not get a recall after impressing in the VFL.
- Also, watch the final teams for this game as Jobe Watson is coming in under a lot of injury speculation.
St Kilda
B: Zac Dawson, Jason Blake, Sam Gilbert
HB: Jason Gram, Sam Fisher, James Gwilt
C: Brendon Goddard, Nick Dal Santo, Farren Ray
HF: Clinton Jones, Justin Koschitzke, Leigh Montagna
F: Tom Lynch, Nick Riewoldt, Stephen Milne
Foll: Michael Gardiner, Lenny Hayes, Adam Schneider
I/C: Jack Steven, Ben McEvoy, Brett Peake, Sean Dempster
Emg: Adam Pattison, Jarryn Geary, Andrew McQualter
In: Lynch
Out: Andrew McQualter
New: Tom Lynch (Sandringham Dragons)
- As a Saints supporter, I must admit I am VERY excited about the debut of Tom Lynch - he is the type of player the Saints have been crying out for for the past year and a half (a third tall forward), but has had to bide his time developing in the VFL before getting a chance in the seniors. In juniors he was personally coached by Stewie Loewe and played at the CHF to Jack Watts’ full-forward. He is a fast leading player with good hands and a good kick, but prides himself on his aggression and tackling. All Saints fans dubbed him the next Aaron Hamill when he walked through the door, so there is little wonder why we will be an excited bunch to see him on Friday night. His junior numbers are also very good, suggesting he will be reasonable at Dream Team.
- McQualter makes way (a few weeks too late) and will likely find the going tough to push back into the side.
- Keep an eye on Montagna for a late withdrawal.
COLLINGWOOD v CARLTON
Collingwood
B: Nick Maxwell, Simon Prestigiacomo, Ben Reid
HB: Harry O’Brien, Tyson Goldsack, Alan Toovey
C: Sharrod Wellingham, Dane Swan, Jarryd Blair
HF: Luke Ball, Travis Cloke, Leon Davis
F: Dayne Beams, Leigh Brown, Steele Sidebottom
Foll: Darren Jolly, Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas
I/C: Alan Didak, Ben Johnson, Brent Macaffer, Chris Dawes
Emg: Tarkyn Lockyer, Josh Fraser, Simon Buckley
In: Cloke
Out: Tarkyn Lockyer
- Despite Collingwood acting coy as to whether Cloke would play this week, it is no surprise to see him named, nor is it a surprise to see Lockyer dropped. Whilst Tarkyn has been decent over the past month, he is clearly on the outer at the Pies.
Carlton
B: Aaron Joseph, Michael Jamison, Paul Bower
HB: Andrew Carrazzo, Jarrad Waite, Jordan Russell
C: Heath Scotland, Chris Judd, Shaun Grigg
HF: Kade Simpson, Brad Fisher, Andrew Walker
F: Eddie Betts, Lachie Henderson, Shaun Hampson
Foll: Robert Warnock, Bryce Gibbs, Marc Murphy
I/C: Dennis Armfield, Jeff Garlett, Chris Johnson, Chris Yarran
Emg: Marcus Davies, David Ellard, Mitch Robinson
In: Fisher
Out: David Ellard
- Ellard is probably a bit stiff to miss (but may be a late inclusion for Dennis Armfield who is not quite 100% after his big his last week), whilst Fisher is a good news story coming back into the team. Fisher is a great marking forward - unfortunately it is his accuracy in front of the sticks and his workrate that have been questioned. He is coming back from LARS knee surgery on the ACL he blew in the NAB cup. He has played several VFL games though so should be fit. Probably too pricey to bring in though.
PORT ADELAIDE v HAWTHORN
Port Adelaide
B: Paul Stewart, Alipate Carlile, Nick Salter
HB: Nathan Krakouer, Troy Chaplin, Matt Thomas
C: Kane Cornes, Domenic Cassisi, Travis Boak
HF: Cameron Hitchcock, Jay Schulz, David Rodan
F: Justin Westhoff, Daniel Stewart, Brett Ebert
Foll: Dean Brogan, Danyle Pearce, Robbie Gray
I/C: Mitchell Banner, Matthew Broadbent, Andrew Moore, Jack Trengove
Emg: Jasper Pittard, Danny Meyer, Scott Harding
In: Krakouer, Trengove
Out: Tom Logan (concussion), Josh Carr (retired)
- Krakouer has passed his fitness test and will finally return to the squad, whilst Trengove is the other good inclusion.
- We say goodbye to Josh Carr, but don’t thank him for all the incredible tagging jobs he did on our Dream Team captains over the years…
Hawthorn
B: Brent Guerra, Stephen Gilham, Thomas Murphy
HB: Grant Birchall, Josh Gibson, Ben Stratton
C: Jordan Lewis, Sam Mitchell, Clinton Young
HF: Chance Bateman, Lance Franklin, Shaun Burgoyne
F: Cyril Rioli, Jarryd Roughead, Michael Osborne
Foll: Brent Renouf, Luke Hodge, Brad Sewell
I/C: Xavier Ellis, Rick Ladson, Wayde Skipper, Brendan Whitecross
Emg: Shane Savage, Ryan Schoenmakers, Matt Suckling
In: Ladson
Out: Campbell Brown (suspension)
- Brown will miss two weeks with suspension and Ladson will come into his spot.
SYDNEY SWANS v GEELONG CATS
Sydney Swans
B: Paul Bevan, Ted Richards, Martin Mattner
HB: Nick Malceski, Heath Grundy, Tadhg Kennelly
C: Daniel Hannebery, Brett Kirk, Jarrad McVeigh
HF: Ryan O’Keefe, Jesse White, Josh Kennedy
F: Ben McGlynn, Adam Goodes, Jarred Moore
Foll: Shane Mumford, Jude Bolton, Kieren Jack
I/C: Lewis Jetta, Brett Meredith, Mike Pyke, Rhyce Shaw
Emg: Trent Dennis-Lane, Sam Reid, Patrick Veszpremi
No change
Geelong Cats
B: Darren Milburn, Matthew Scarlett, Josh Hunt
HB: Andrew Mackie, Harry Taylor, Corey Enright
C: James Kelly, Cameron Ling, Gary Ablett
HF: Shannon Byrnes, Cameron Mooney, Travis Varcoe
F: Paul Chapman, Tom Hawkins, Steve Johnson
Foll: Brad Ottens, Joel Selwood, Joel Corey
I/C: David Wojcinski, Mathew Stokes, Tom Lonergan, Trent West
Emg: Taylor Hunt, Simon Hogan, Daniel Menzel
In: Byrnes, West, Hawkins
Out: James Podsiadly (soreness), Jimmy Bartel (ankle), Mark Blake
- We knew it was coming, but when you finally see it on paper it is a blow - Pods is being rested again after he commented through the week that the long season was certainly taking a toll on him. Geelong want him 100% for the finals, and with Hawkins’ return, there is no point pushing him.
- Bartel, to many, will be an even bigger blow thanks to the lack of good midfield bench options. He will hopefully miss just the one week, but be sure to brace yourself as the likes of Chapman, Enright and Ablett are rested over the next fortnight, as anticipated by Bomber Thompson.
BRISBANE LIONS v MELBOURNE
Brisbane Lions
B: Xavier Clarke, Daniel Merrett, Ashley McGrath
HB: Luke Power, Brent Staker, Joel Patfull
C: Jack Redden, Daniel Rich, Tom Rockliff
HF: James Polkinghorne, Jonathan Brown, Albert Proud
F: Jared Brennan, Brendan Fevola, Todd Banfield
Foll: Mitchell Clark, Simon Black, Michael Rischitelli
I/C: Pearce Hanley, Cheynee Stiller, Ryan Harwood, Matthew Leuenberger
Emg: James Hawksley, Aaron Cornelius, Justin Sherman
In: McGrath, Clarke, Stiller, Black
Out: Amon Buchanan (quad), Matt Maguire, James Hawksley, Aaron Cornelius
- Whilst Brisbane haven’t been one to go light at the selection table this year, this week certainly offers up a few surprises - in a week where they are clearly trying to make a statement by dropping Maguire, Hawksley and Cornelius, they bizarrely didn’t drop Fevola!
- McGrath and Black return, but the big story is the first game of Xavier Clarke for his new club. Clarke crossed from St.Kilda in last year’s trade week and came with a broken body, having ruptured his ACL early in 2009 after many series of hamstring issues. It is great to see him back on the park, but maintain plenty of speculation about his body holding up - he has had a rough career to date - every time he looks like he is reaching form, he suddenly re-injures himself. He is a mega bargain, but personally i think he is not worth the risk.
Melbourne
B: Colin Garland, Jared Rivers, Clint Bartram
HB: Cameron Bruce, James Frawley, Joel Macdonald
C: Rohan Bail, James McDonald, Brad Green
HF: Lynden Dunn, Jack Watts, Tom Scully
F: Jamie Bennell, Paul Johnson, Austin Wonaeamirri
Foll: Mark Jamar, Colin Sylvia, Aaron Davey
I/C: Jordie McKenzie, Cale Morton, Liam Jurrah, Nathan Jones
Emg: Addam Maric, Matthew Warnock, Jack Trengove
In: James McDonald
Out: Addam Maric
- McDonald is the only inclusion into the side that thumped Sydney on the weekend. The real surprise is seeing Trengove on the bench though - surely he is not far away!
RICHMOND v ADELAIDE
Richmond
B: Chris Newman, Luke McGuane, Will Thursfield
HB: Brett Deledio, Kelvin Moore, Daniel Connors
C: Mitch Morton, Dustin Martin, Shane Edwards
HF: Ben Nason, Andrew Collins, Jake King
F: Matt White, Jack Riewoldt, David Astbury
Foll: Angus Graham, Shane Tuck, Daniel Jackson
I/C (from): Ben Cousins, Andrew Browne, Mitch Farmer, Jeromey Webberley, Alex Rance, Robbie Hicks, Troy Taylor
In: Moore, White, Jackson, Thursfield, Taylor, Hicks
Out: Dean Polo, Robin Nahas, Jayden Post
New: Robbie Hicks (Calder Cannons/Rookie list)
- Another wealth of changes for Richmond, with forgotten man Troy Taylor making a comeback (sorry kids, no Relton Roberts) and debutant Robbie Hicks named on the extended bench. Hicks is a small forward (a VERY small forward; 176cm and 67kg) who averaged 11 disposals (8.5 of those uncontested) through the TAC cup and kicked nearly 2 goals a game. Small forwards can be good DT scorers, but i feel that Hicks may just be a bit too small to play yet at senior level. Keeps tabs on him certainly, but this is not the time of year to be picking up speculative rookies.
Adelaide
B: Michael Doughty, Ben Rutten, Scott Stevens
HB: Brent Reilly, Nathan Bock, Nathan van Berlo
C: Rory Sloane, Scott Thompson, David Mackay
HF: Ricky Henderson, Taylor Walker, Matthew Jaensch
F: Jason Porplyzia, Kurt Tippett, Richard Douglas
Foll: Ivan Maric, Bernie Vince, Patrick Dangerfield
I/C (from): Tony Armstrong, Phil Davis, Jonathon Griffin, Jack Gunston, Chris Schmidt, James Sellar, Brad Symes
In: Sellar, Schmidt, Davis, Gunston
Out: Graham Johncock (suspension)
- Adelaide have returned to the well of youth, topping the team up with youngsters Sellar, Schmidt, Davis (WHY was he dropped!?) and Gunston.
- The only omission so far is Johncock, who has been suspended for one week.
WESTERN BULLDOGS v NORTH MELBOURNE
Western Bulldogs
B: Jarrod Harbrow, Brian Lake, Dale Morris
HB: Ryan Hargrave, Tom Williams, Lindsay Gilbee
C: Daniel Cross, Matthew Boyd, Liam Picken
HF: Robert Murphy, Liam Jones, Brad Johnson
F: Jarrad Grant, Barry Hall, Shaun Higgins
Foll: Ben Hudson, Ryan Griffen, Adam Cooney
I/C (from): Dylan Addison, Nathan Eagleton, Andrejs Everitt, Daniel Giansiracusa, Brodie Moles, Jordan Roughead, Easton Wood
In: Dylan Addison, Andrejs Everitt, Liam Jones, Nathan Eagleton
Out: Callan Ward (hip)
New: Liam Jones (Tasmania U18)
- The Doggies have said a couple of times this week that they are looking forward to giving Jones his first game and that is exactly what they have done here, naming him at CHF. Jones is a 195cm key position forward and was highly rated when he came to the Dogs at the end of 2008. He is still relatively light, so don’t expect him to score very much, but with his athleticism and AFL heritage, there is a very good chance he will be a good player for years to come.
North Melbourne
B: Michael Firrito, Scott Thompson, Brady Rawlings
HB: Jamie MacMillan, Josh Smith, Scott McMahon
C: Leigh Adams, Brent Harvey, Sam Wright
HF: Matt Campbell, Aaron Edwards, Ben Speight
F: Ben Cunnington, Lachlan Hansen, Lindsay Thomas
Foll: Hamish McIntosh, Andrew Swallow, Levi Greenwood
I/C: Ed Lower, Todd Goldstein, Ryan Bastinac, Brayden Norris, Marcus White, Leigh Harding, Gavin Urquhart
In: McMahon, Thomas, White, Wright, Norris
Out: David Hale , Ben Warren (back)
New: Marcus White (Calder Cannons/Rookie list), Brayden Norris (Murray Bushrangers)
- The Roos have now all but resigned to missing the finals, but it means they will give more youngsters a game. Speight and Macmillan get a second run, whilst White and Norris will debut if they make the final cut from the extended bench.
- Norris is an athletic mid with a super tank, reaching an impressive 15.06 in the beep test at Draft Camp. He isn’t necessarily a big ball winner, averaging just 15 disposals in the TAC cup, playing mainly on a HFF, but Bastinac has already shown us this year that he is able to turn a big tank into a decent footballer.
- White is in his second year on the Roos rookie list and is a midfielder. He played VFL last year for North Ballarat as a tagger, a role which may prove to have adverse effects on his DT scoring at AFL level. Watch to see where Brad Scott plays him first, but don’t be expecting a very attacking role.
FREMANTLE v WEST COAST EAGLES
Fremantle
B: Chris Tarrant, Antoni Grover, Greg Broughton
HB: Justin Bollenhagen, Luke McPharlin, Roger Hayden
C: Garrick Ibbotson, David Mundy, Nathan Fyfe
HF: Jay van Berlo, Matthew Pavlich, Stephen Hill
F: Adam McPhee, Michael Johnson, Hayden Ballantyne
Foll: Aaron Sandilands, Nick Suban, Paul Duffield
I/C (from): Michael Walters, Dylan Roberton, Matthew de Boer, Paul Hasleby, Jesse Crichton, Anthony Morabito, Kepler Bradley
In: Bradley, Mundy, Walters, Bollenhagen, Tarrant
Out: Rhys Palmer (shoulder), Clancee Pearce (knee)
New: Justin Bollenhagen (South Adelaide)
- Bollenhagen is again named to play (I talked about him in last week’s article), but this time is named on the field, so will definitely line up. Palmer and Pearce will miss, whilst Harvey complained during the week that he had too many first and second year players in the squad. Therefore, the likes of Crichton, de Boer, Roberton and Waters must be a little nervous with their names on the extended bench.
- Mundy will also return after being a late withdrawal last week with stomach cramps.
West Coast Eagles
B: Will Schofield, Eric MacKenzie, Ashley Smith
HB: Beau Waters, Mitchell Brown, Shannon Hurn
C: Brad Ebert, Matt Priddis, Matt Rosa
HF: Andrew Embley, Josh Kennedy, Andrew Strijk
F: Mark LeCras, Quinten Lynch, Nic Naitanui
Foll: Dean Cox, Chris Masten, Scott Selwood
I/C (from): Brett Jones, Patrick McGinnity, Ben McKinley, Brad Sheppard, Lewis Stevenson, Tom Swift, Callum Wilson
In: McKinley, Jones, Wilson, Swift, McGinnity
Out: Adam Selwood (shoulder), Ashton Hams (suspension)
- Hams is gone for three weeks with suspension, whilst Selwood may miss a couple.
- A raft of inclusions are named, but expect Jones, Swift and McGinnity to be the few with any chance of playing.
- Once again, no Koby Stevens - in fact, he doesn’t even make the emergency list.
Round 17
ST KILDA v HAWTHORN
St Kilda
B: Zac Dawson, Jason Blake, Sam Gilbert
HB: Jason Gram, Sam Fisher, James Gwilt
C: Brendon Goddard, Nick Dal Santo, Farren Ray
HF: Clinton Jones, Justin Koschitzke, Leigh Montagna
F: Andrew McQualter, Nick Riewoldt, Stephen Milne
Foll: Michael Gardiner, Lenny Hayes, Adam Schneider
I/C: Jack Steven, Ben McEvoy, Brett Peake, Sean Dempster
Emg: Adam Pattison, Jarryn Geary, Rhys Stanley
In: Dal Santo, McEvoy
Out: Adam Pattison, Jarryn Geary
- No huge surprises at the Saints with Dal Danto coming straight back into the squad after being a late withdrawal last week.
- McEvoy also comes back from a weeks rest, whilst Geary is a surprise omission.
Hawthorn
B: Brent Guerra, Stephen Gilham, Thomas Murphy
HB: Grant Birchall, Josh Gibson, Ben Stratton
C: Jordan Lewis, Sam Mitchell, Clinton Young
HF: Chance Bateman, Lance Franklin, Shaun Burgoyne
F: Cyril Rioli, Jarryd Roughead, Michael Osborne
Foll: Brent Renouf, Luke Hodge, Brad Sewell
I/C: Campbell Brown, Xavier Ellis, Wayde Skipper, Brendan Whitecross
Emg: Rick Ladson, Jordan Lisle, Shane Savage
In: Franklin
Out: Carl Peterson (wisdom teeth)
- Franklin is straight back in after passing his fitness test today at training. The Hawks are still suggesting that he is not 100%, but i would be very surprised if he didn’t play!
- Peterson is out, having chosen a very bad point in the season to have his wisdom teeth removed.
COLLINGWOOD v RICHMOND
Collingwood
B: Nick Maxwell, Simon Prestigiacomo, Ben Reid
HB: Harry O’Brien, Tyson Goldsack, Alan Toovey
C: Sharrod Wellingham, Dane Swan, Jarryd Blair
HF: Luke Ball, Chris Dawes, Leon Davis
F: Dayne Beams, Leigh Brown, Steele Sidebottom
Foll: Darren Jolly, Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas
I/C: Alan Didak, Tarkyn Lockyer, Ben Johnson, Brent Macaffer
Emg: Josh Fraser, Luke Rounds, Simon Buckley
In: Maxwell
Out: Heath Shaw (back)
- Maxwell back is no huge DT news, although the loss of Shaw certainly is, especially after he found some good form against the Saints on Saturday. Chances are it will only be a short-term injury.
Richmond
B: Chris Newman, Luke McGuane, Alex Rance
HB: Brett Deledio, David Astbury, Daniel Connors
C: Mitch Morton, Dustin Martin, Shane Edwards
HF: Ben Nason, Andrew Collins, Ben Cousins
F: Jayden Post, Jack Riewoldt, Dean Polo
Foll: Angus Graham, Shane Tuck, Jake King
I/C: Robin Nahas, Andrew Browne, Mitch Farmer, Jeromey Webberley
Emg: David Gourdis, Troy Taylor, Robbie Hicks
In: Morton, Polo, Rance, Nason, Post, Browne
Out: Richard Tambling , Kelvin Moore (leg), Matt White (leg), Will Thursfield (concussion), Trent Cotchin (suspension), Tyrone Vickery
- The Tigers swing the axe after their first loss in a month, with Tambling being the biggest name omission. The Tigers will also be short on defenders with Moore and Thursfield both injured.
- Cotchin is out suspended for four weeks.
- Nason is the good news inclusion, whilst Brown will play his first game of the year - don’t be expecting too much from him though!
GEELONG CATS v BRISBANE LIONS
Geelong Cats
B: Tom Lonergan, Matthew Scarlett, Josh Hunt
HB: Darren Milburn, Harry Taylor, Corey Enright
C: James Kelly, Cameron Ling, Gary Ablett
HF: Paul Chapman, James Podsiadly, Travis Varcoe
F: Mathew Stokes, Cameron Mooney, Steve Johnson
Foll: Brad Ottens, Joel Selwood, Joel Corey
I/C: David Wojcinski, Andrew Mackie, Jimmy Bartel, Mark Blake
Emg: Taylor Hunt, Simon Hogan, Daniel Menzel
In: Johnson, Milburn
Out: Shannon Byrnes (soreness), Simon Hogan
- The Cats further strengthen their team by bringing back Johnson from suspension and Milburn from injury. Byrnes makes was with soreness/resting, whilst Hogan has been dropped.
Brisbane Lions
B: Brent Staker, Daniel Merrett, Joel Patfull
HB: Pearce Hanley, Matt Maguire, Daniel Rich
C: Jack Redden, Jared Brennan, Tom Rockliff
HF: Luke Power, Jonathan Brown, Amon Buchanan
F: Aaron Cornelius, Brendan Fevola, Todd Banfield
Foll: Mitchell Clark, Michael Rischitelli, James Polkinghorne
I/C: James Hawksley, Matthew Leuenberger, Ryan Harwood, Albert Proud
Emg: Tom Collier, Justin Sherman, Cheynee Stiller
In: Proud, Hawksley, Cornelius, Harwood
Out: Ashley McGrath (suspension), Justin Sherman, Tom Collier, Travis Johnstone
New: Ryan Harwood (Tasmania U18s)
- The Lions bring back last week’s surprise omission, Cornelius and also add debutant Ryan Harwood. Harwood is a very competitive midfielder who averaged 21 disposals through both the TAC cup and u18 championships. He is a good body size and his strength is around contests, averaging the most clearances of anyone in the Tasmanian team. He was picked by Brisbane at pick 47 in the 2009 draft and looks a likely type at AFL level.
- Making way are McGrath (suspended for one week), Sherman and Johnstone - both who were AWFUL against Hawthorn last week.
NORTH MELBOURNE v ESSENDON
North Melbourne
B: Michael Firrito, Scott Thompson, Brady Rawlings
HB: Jamie Macmillan, Nathan Grima, Daniel Pratt
C: Leigh Adams, Brent Harvey, Ryan Bastinac
HF: Matt Campbell, Lachlan Hansen, Ben Warren
F: Daniel Wells, Todd Goldstein, Aaron Edwards
Foll: Hamish McIntosh, Andrew Swallow, Levi Greenwood
I/C: Ben Cunnington, Ed Lower, Gavin Urquhart, Josh Smith
Emg: Leigh Harding, David Hale, Ben Speight
In: Smith, Macmillan
Out: Robbie Tarrant (thumb), Sam Wright (concussion)
New: Jamie Macmillan (Oakleigh Chargers)
- The big news here is that Jamie Macmillan WILL make his debut this week - i talked about him in last week’s teams review, so check that out if you want to know more.
- Tarrant makes way with a thumb injury which will see him miss a few weeks, whilst Wright still hasn’t recovered from the bump given to him by Cotchin.
Essendon
B: Heath Hocking, Cale Hooker, Dustin Fletcher
HB: Mark McVeigh, Michael Hurley, Courtenay Dempsey
C: Kyle Reimers, Jobe Watson, Travis Colyer
HF: David Zaharakis, Scott Gumbleton, Angus Monfries
F: Leroy Jetta, Jay Neagle, Sam Lonergan
Foll: Patrick Ryder, Jason Winderlich, Ben Howlett
I/C: Bachar Houli, Brent Stanton, Kyle Hardingham, Alwyn Davey
Emg: Brent Prismall, David Myers, Nathan Lovett-Murray
In: Houli, Jetta, Hardingham
Out: Jake Melksham, Nathan Lovett-Murray, Tom Bellchambers (foot)
New: Kyle Hardingham (East Fremantle)
- Essendon’s emergency list almost looks like their best line at the moment, with Lovett-Murray dropped and Prismall not getting a recall. Melksham is the other player to be omitted.
- Houli and Jetta, two players seemingly out of favour at the Bombers are back, whilst Hardingham will make his debut. Hardingham is a mature aged midfielder and one who has strong dream team potential. He is 21 years old and was drafted to Essendon is last year’s pre-season draft after taking home East-Fremantle’s B&F in 2009. Despite playing off half-back, Hardingham was the club’s leading goalkicker, kicking 25 goals in his 15 games. He averaged 19 disposals, 6 marks and 2 tackles a game in 2009.
WEST COAST v CARLTON
West Coast
B: Will Schofield, Eric Mackenzie, Brad Sheppard
HB: Beau Waters, Mitchell Brown, Shannon Hurn
C: Matt Rosa, Matt Priddis, Andrew Embley
HF: Andrew Strijk, Josh Kennedy, Brad Ebert
F: Dean Cox, Quinten Lynch, Mark LeCras
Foll: Nic Naitanui, Adam Selwood, Chris Masten
I/C: Ashton Hams, Scott Selwood, Ashley Smith, Lewis Stevenson
Emg: Tim Houlihan, Patrick McGinnity, Callum Wilson
No change
Carlton
B: David Ellard, Michael Jamison, Paul Bower
HB: Jordan Russell, Jarrad Waite, Bryce Gibbs
C: Chris Yarran, Chris Judd, Heath Scotland
HF: Marc Murphy, Lachie Henderson, Kade Simpson
F: Jeff Garlett, Shaun Hampson, Eddie Betts
Foll: Robert Warnock, Andrew Walker, Aaron Joseph
I/C: Dennis Armfield, Andrew Carrazzo, Shaun Grigg, Chris Johnson
Emg: Marcus Davies, Richard Hadley, Mitch Robinson
In: Johnson, Warnock, Ellard
Out: Sam Jacobs, Kane Lucas (hamstring), Mitch Robinson
- The Blues had suggested that Warnock would earn a recall this week, which is fantastic news, however it is surprising it came at the expense of Jacobs, who has been more than serviceable this year. Chris Johnson is another inclusion, who like Warnock, will have a lot to prove in this game with his career just about on the line.
- Lucas is out with a hamstring injury that the club has said will make him miss the rest of the year.
WESTERN BULLDOGS v FREMANTLE
Western Bulldogs
B: Jarrod Harbrow, Brian Lake, Dale Morris
HB: Ryan Hargrave, Tom Williams, Lindsay Gilbee
C: Daniel Cross. Matthew Boyd, Liam Picken
HF: Robert Murphy, Brad Johnson, Shaun Higgins
F: Jarrad Grant, Barry Hall, Daniel Giansiracusa
Foll: Ben Hudson, Adam Cooney, Ryan Griffen
I/C (from): Dylan Addison, Nathan Eagleton, Andrejs Everitt, Brodie Moles, Jordan Roughead, Callan Ward, Easton Wood
In: Addison, Roughead, Hall
Out: -
- No outs yet for the dogs (except Aker of course!), but they have included Roughead and Hall into the game - both of which are almost certainties to play.
Fremantle
B: Dylan Roberton, Antoni Grover, Greg Broughton
HB: Matthew de Boer, Luke McPharlin, Roger Hayden
C: Garrick Ibbotson, David Mundy, Nathan Fyfe
HF: Jay van Berlo, Matthew Pavlich, Stephen Hill
F: Adam McPhee, Michael Johnson, Hayden Ballantyne
Foll: Aaron Sandilands, Nick Suban, Paul Duffield
I/C (from): Justin Bollenhagen, Jesse Crichton, Clancee Pearce, Byron Schammer, Paul Hasleby, Rhys Palmer, Anthony Morabito
In: Schammer, Suban, Pearce, Bollenhagen, Crichton, Grover
Out: Kepler Bradley (knee), Ryan Crowley (knee), Alex Silvagni (groin)
New: Justin Bollenhagen (South Adelaide), Jesse Crichton (North Launceston)
- No huge ins for the Dockers, although it is good to see them name two debutants (albeit to the extended bench). Neither are particularly impressive for Dream Team unfortunately with Bollenhagen being Freo’s last pick in the 2009 draft as a player who can play either end of the ground. He wasn’t spectacular in the draft camp, failing to get in the top 30% of any tests - he is a project player and will take time.
- Crichton has the junior stats to suggest he could be a good dream teamer, although at just 72kgs, i doubt it will be in 2010. in the under 18s he impressed as a midfielder both capable of winning the ball, but also ferocious tackling, averaging a huge 6 tackles per game. He also averaged 19 disposals in his 5 games. As I said, he is probably too skinny, but we must remember the debut of Stephen Hill last year who was 69kgs!
- Bradley, Silvagni and Crowley are all big outs for Freo - all forced by injury.
MELBOURNE v SYDNEY SWANS
Melbourne
B: Colin Garland, Jared Rivers, Clint Bartram
HB: Jordie McKenzie, James Frawley, Joel Macdonald
C: Jamie Bennell, Cameron Bruce, Brad Green
HF: Lynden Dunn, Cale Morton, Tom Scully
F: Colin Sylvia, Jack Watts, Liam Jurrah
Foll: Mark Jamar, Brent Moloney, Aaron Davey
I/C (from): Nathan Jones, Paul Johnson, Rohan Bail, Matthew Bate, Austin Wonaeamirri, Addam Maric, Matthew Warnock
In: Wonaeamirri, Warnock, Maric
Out: -
- Nothing too exciting here, except for Wona being back, which may help those coaches who traded him in earlier in the year. I wouldn’t even consider him if you don’t have him though!
Sydney Swans
B: Rhyce Shaw, Ted Richards, Martin Mattner
HB: Paul Bevan, Heath Grundy, Tadhg Kennelly
C: Nick Malceski, Brett Kirk, Kieren Jack
HF: Ryan O’Keefe, Mike Pyke, Josh Kennedy
F: Ben McGlynn, Adam Goodes, Jarred Moore
Foll: Shane Mumford, Jude Bolton, Jarrad McVeigh
I/C (from): Trent Dennis-Lane, Daniel Hannebery, Lewis Jetta, Brett Meredith, Gary Rohan, Sam Reid, Jesse White
In: Dennis-Lane, Jetta, Reid, Rohan
Out: Nick Smith (hamstring)
New: Sam Reid (Murray Bushrangers)
- Sydney are bringing in a few young guns, TDL, Jetta, Reid and possible debutant Reid. All are named on the extended bench though, so don’t get too excited!
- Reid is a key defender, and undersized at that. He was never a big ball winner in juniors, averaging just 8 disposals in the TAC cup, proof he is not a dream teamer!
PORT ADELAIDE v ADELAIDE
Port Adelaide
B: Paul Stewart, Alipate Carlile, Nick Salter
HB: Tom Logan, Troy Chaplin, Matt Thomas
C: Kane Cornes, Domenic Cassisi, Travis Boak
HF: Cameron Hitchcock, Jay Schulz, David Rodan
F: Robbie Gray, Daniel Stewart, Brett Ebert
Foll: Dean Brogan, Danyle Pearce, Josh Carr
I/C (from): Mitchell Banner, Jack Trengove, Matthew Broadbent, Justin Westhoff, Andrew Moore, Jasper Pittard, Chad Cornes
In: Thomas, Boak, Carlile, Stewart, Gray, Moore, Pittard, Cornes
Out: Daniel Motlop (suspension), Jay Nash, Steven Salopek (shoulder), Scott Harding, Jason Davenport
New: Jasper Pittard (Geelong Falcons)
- I am going to be honest and say I simply cannot wait till this game - in fact, I am rarely so excited about a game played by two interstate teams outside the eight. Why? It is the last ever game of one of the AFL’s toughest players - Josh Carr. I doubt he will go out swinging (aka. Doing a Lynch), but if let loose, he is going to make the game worth watching. The icing on the cake is the return of Thomas from injury - aka. “The Crow Killer.”
- Cornes may also be back (fingers crossed this isn’t another last game), with Gray, Moore and Boak other big inclusions.
- Jasper Pittard is named on the bench for his first game, although i doubt he will play. He is an incredible football talent and a great footballer to match - he is a great athletic tall who will play most of his football on a wing or off half-back thanks to his great ability to read the play and mark above his head. He is a little undersized for AFL level, but not too small. He averaged 20 disposals in the TAC cup and there is little doubt he will be a future gun!
- Salopek is out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury, whilst Harding, Davenport and Nash have been dropped.
Adelaide
B: Michael Doughty, Ben Rutten, Graham Johncock
HB: Simon Goodwin, Scott Stevens, Andrew McLeod
C: David Mackay, Patrick Dangerfield, Nathan van Berlo
HF: Rory Sloane, Taylor Walker, Richard Douglas
F: Ricky Henderson, Kurt Tippett, Matthew Jaensch
Foll: Jonathon Griffin, Scott Thompson, Bernie Vince
I/C (from): Brent Reilly, Brad Symes, Phil Davis, Ivan Maric, James Sellar, Tony Armstrong, Nathan Bock
In: Bock, Sellar, Armstrong
Out: -
- Bock is really the only exciting news. Played well in the SANFL on the weekend and there is little doubt he will play.
Teams Round 16
ADELAIDE v GEELONG CATS
Adelaide
B: Graham Johncock, Ben Rutten, Scott Stevens
HB: Brad Symes, Phil Davis, Simon Goodwin
C: Michael Doughty, Nathan van Berlo, David Mackay
HF: Richard Douglas, Ricky Henderson, Matthew Jaensch
F: Patrick Dangerfield, Kurt Tippett, Taylor Walker
R: Ivan Maric, Scott Thompson, Brent Reilly
Int: Jonathon Grffin, Bernie Vince, Andrew McLeod, Rory Sloane
Emg: James Sellar, Jason Porplyzia, Nathan Bock
In: McLeod, Mackay
Out: Tony Armstrong, Jason Porplyzia
- A couple of strong inclusions to Adelaide’s lineup. Mackay is good to see back, although i doubt he is in too many teams now after the period of time he is missed. McLeod is a speculative one - a lot of people thought he would play SANFL this week, so is a chance to be a late out. Then again, you don’t play Rolls Royces on those grounds, so perhaps he will play…
- Armstrong again makes way, showing ball-winning doesn’t guarantee a game. The Porpoise is out again thanks to his average recent form.
Geelong Cats
B: Josh Hunt, Matthew Scarlett, Tom Lonergan
HB: Corey Enright, Harry Taylor, James Kelly
C: Andrew Mackie, Cameron Ling, Joel Corey
HF: Paul Chapman, James Podsiadly, Gary Ablett
F: Mathew Stokes, Cameron Mooney, Travis Varcoe
Foll: Brad Ottens, Joel Selwood, Jimmy Bartel
I/C: Shannon Byrnes, Mark Blake, David Wojcinski, Joel Corey
Emg: Tom Hawkins, Taylor Hunt, Mitch Duncan
In: Corey, Mooney
Out: Mitch Duncan, Darren Milburn (general soreness)
- Corey back, but his missing last week is proof that he is probably a bit too much of a risk this year. Mooney also returns from suspension, whilst Stevie J appears to miss another game. Hawkins will play VFL this week.
- Duncan is omitted, whilst Milburn is the first of the Cats veterans to be rested.
COLLINGWOOD v ST KILDA
Collingwood
B: Heath Shaw, Simon Prestigiacomo, Ben Reid
HB: Harry O’Brien, Tyson Goldsack, Alan Toovey
C: Sharrod Wellingham, Dane Swan, Jarryd Blair
HF: Luke Ball, Chris Dawes, Leon Davis
F: Dayne Beams, Leigh Brown, Steele Sidebottom
Foll: Darren Jolly, Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas
I/C: Alan Didak, Ben Johnson, Tarkyn Lockyer, Brent Macaffer
Emg: John Anthony, Josh Fraser, Luke Rounds
In: Davis, Macaffer
Out: Travis Cloke (suspended), John Anthony
- Two tall forwards omitted/suspended for Collingwood, yet still no Fraser or Medhurst. Writing on the wall perhaps? Cloke will miss two weeks with suspension, whilst Anthony is simply dropped.
- Davis will return from a neck injury - I wouldn’t be counting on a season-changing game from him though…
St Kilda
B: Zac Dawson, Jason Blake, Sam Gilbert
HB: Jason Gram, Sam Fisher, James Gwilt
C: Brendon Goddard, Nick Dal Santo, Farren Ray
HF: Clinton Jones, Justin Koschitzke, Leigh Montagna
F: Andrew McQualter, Nick Riewoldt, Stephen Milne
Foll: Michael Gardiner, Lenny Hayes, Adam Schneider
I/C: Jack Steven, Adam Pattison, Brett Peake, Jarryn Geary
Emg: Ben McEvoy, Sean Dempster, David Armitage
In: Koschitzke, Goddard
Out: Sean Dempster, Ben McEvoy
- Kosi returns, although it is still speculative whether he will play - Lyon said mid-week he would be named regardless and they would see how he pulls up before the game before making the final decision. Goddard also returns from the Flu.
- McEvoy is dropped in favour of Pattison, who played his best game for the club last week - perhaps this could also be read as a sign that Kosi will be a late withdrawal.
HAWTHORN v BRISBANE LIONS
Hawthorn
B: Brent Guerra, Ben Stratton, Josh Gibson
HB: Thomas Murphy, Stephen Gilham, Grant Birchall
C: Clinton Young, Sam Mitchell, Chance Bateman
HF: Cyril Rioli, Lance Franklin, Michael Osborne
F: Shaun Burgoyne, Jarryd Roughead, Campbell Brown
Foll: Brent Renouf, Luke Hodge, Xavier Ellis
I/C: Jordan Lewis, Carl Peterson, Wayde Skipper, Brendan Whitecross
Emg: Jordan Lisle, Shane Savage, Brad Sewell
In: Mitchell, Whitecross
Out: Brad Sewell, Ryan Schoenmakers
- Two pretty high profile omissions for Hawthorn! As far as I am aware, neither man is injured, so it is certainly a big statement, especially the omission of Sewell, who has certainly been well down on his 2009 efforts.
- Mitchell has been named after missing just one game with a broken finger. His spot in the team is still speculative, so make sure you have emergency cover for him.
- Also, Buddy has been named despite rolling his ankle at training yesterday. They will give him until the first bounce to prove his fitness.
Brisbane Lions
B: Tom Collier, Daniel Merrett, Ashley McGrath
HB: Daniel Rich, Joel Patfull, Travis Johnstone
C: Jack Redden, Tom Rockliff, Justin Sherman
HF: James Polkinghorne, Jonathan Brown, Luke Power
F: Todd Banfield, Brendan Fevola, Brent Staker
Foll: Mitchell Clark, Michael Rischitelli, Jared Brennan
I/C: Matthew Leuenberger, Pearce Hanley, Amon Buchanan, Matt Maguire
Emg: James Hawksley, Aaron Cornelius, Jesse O’Brien
In: Brown, Maguire
Out: Aaron Cornelius, Simon Black (ankle)
- Michael Voss is true to form, bringing injured skipper, Jon Brown back one week early from injury. Definitely a welcome inclusion to plenty of DTs though! Maguire is also named after impressing last week in the QAFL.
- Cornelius, their leading goal-kicker of the past three weeks is the unlucky omission, whilst Black has an ankle injury and will miss.
ESSENDON v WEST COAST
Essendon
B: Dustin Fletcher, Michael Hurley, Heath Hocking
HB: Courtenay Dempsey, Cale Hooker, Brent Stanton
C: Mark McVeigh, Jobe Watson, Kyle Reimers
HF: Alwyn Davey, Scott Gumbleton, Angus Monfries
F: Patrick Ryder, Jay Neagle, Travis Colyer
Foll: Tom Bellchambers, Jake Melksham, Jason Winderlich
I/C: David Zaharakis, Sam Lonergan, Nathan Lovett-Murray, Ben Howlett
Emg: Bachar Houli, Brent Prismall, David Myers
In: Gumbleton, Melksham, Fletcher
Out: Andrew Welsh (groin), Ricky Dyson (knee), Leroy Jetta (suspension)
- Gumby returns after being a late withdrawal last week, as does Melksham and Fletcher who has now served his three week suspension.
- Two injuries and a suspension force the changes with Welsh, Dyson and Jetta those missing out.
West Coast
B: Will Schofield, Eric MacKenzie, Brad Sheppard
HB: Beau Waters, Mitchell Brown, Shannon Hurn
C: Matt Rosa, Matt Priddis, Andrew Embley
HF: Andrew Strijk, Josh Kennedy, Brad Ebert
F: Nic Naitanui, Quinten Lynch, Mark LeCras
Foll: Dean Cox, Adam Selwood, Chris Masten
I/C: Ashton Hams, Scott Selwood, Ashley Smith, Lewis Stevenson
Emg: Tim Houlihan, Koby Stevens, Callum Wilson
In: Hurn
Out: Brett Jones
- Hurn makes his way back into the squad after spending two weeks on the sidelines with injury.
- The main news though is the naming of Waters, who was suspected to miss after corking his hamstring. Fortunately, the man is tough as nails and can play through the pain!
- In other good news, all of Smith, Stevenson and Hams keeps their spots.
WESTERN BULLDOGS v PORT ADELAIDE
Western Bulldogs
B: Jarrod Harbrow, Brian Lake, Dale Morris
HB: Ryan Hargrave, Tom Williams, Lindsay Gilbee
C: Ryan Griffen, Matthew Boyd, Nathan Eagleton
HF: Robert Murphy, Andrejs Everitt, Callan Ward
F: Shaun Higgins, Jarrad Grant, Daniel Giansiracusa
Foll: Ben Hudson, Daniel Cross, Adam Cooney
I/C: Jordan Roughead, Easton Wood, Liam Picken, Brad Johnson
Emg: Andrew Hooper, Liam Jones, Brodie Moles
In: Everitt, Eagleton
Out: Brennan Stack (hamstring), Barry Hall (ankle)
- Barry Hall is out with a sore ankle and is expected to miss 1-2 weeks, whilst Stack will miss around 3 weeks.
- Brad Johnson is making the trip to Darwin, whilst Aker will miss again, despite completing his club suspension.
Port Adelaide
B: Paul Stewart, Jackson Trengove, Nick Salter
HB: Steven Salopek, Troy Chaplin, Matt Thomas
C: Kane Cornes, Domenic Cassisi, Travis Boak
HF: Justin Westhoff, Jay Schulz, David Rodan
F: Jason Davenport, Daniel Motlop, Brett Ebert
Foll: Dean Brogan, Danyle Pearce, Tom Logan
I/C: Mitch Banner, Matt Broadbent, Cameron Hitchcock, Jay Nash
Emg: Andrew Moore, Scott Harding, Daniel Stewart
In: Davenport, Nash, Schulz
Out: Atipate Carlile (back), Josh Carr, Daniel Stewart
- OUT: Mark Williams; IN: Matthew Primus
- Davenport is the main inclusion into the Port side this week, besides their new Coach.
- The statement towards youth has already been made by the dropping of Carr and the non-selection of Chad Cornes, despite his fitness.
CARLTON v SYDNEY SWANS
Carlton
B: Aaron Joseph, Michael Jamison, Andrew Walker
HB: Jordan Russell, Paul Bower, Bryce Gibbs
C: Heath Scotland, Kade Simpson, Kane Lucas
HF: Andrew Carrazzo, Lachie Henderson, Jeff Garlett
F: Chris Yarran, Jarrad Waite, Eddie Betts
Foll: Sam Jacobs, Chris Judd, Marc Murphy
I/C (from): Dennis Armfield, Marcus Davies, David Ellard, Shaun Grigg, Shaun Hampson, Mitch Robinson, Robert Warnock
In: Waite, Grigg, Warnock, Ellard, Davies, Lucas
Out: Ryan Houlihan (knee), Bret Thornton, Setanta O’hAilpin
- Ratten has rung the changes as Carlton with Thornton and O’hAilpin dropped.
- There will likely be even more changes once the final teams have been named with plenty of average performers sitting on the extended bench.
- Waite will return, whilst plenty will be hoping for the selection of Warnock over Hampson after he was one of the Bullants’ best afield last week in the VFL.
Sydney Swans
B: Rhyce Shaw, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Nick Smith
HB: Paul Bevan, Heath Grundy, Tadhg Kennelly
C: Nick Malceski, Brett Kirk, Kieren Jack
HF: Daniel Hannebery, Ryan O’Keefe, Josh Kennedy
F: Ben McGlynn, Adam Goodes, Jarred Moore
Foll: Shane Mumford, Jude Bolton, Jarrad McVeigh
I/C (from): Trent Dennis-Lane, Brett Meredith, Mike Pyke, Ted Richards, Martin Mattner, Lewis Jetta, Jesse White
In: Mattner, White, Jetta
- No outs yet for Sydney, but Mattner, White and Jetta have all been named. Mattner will likely play, whilst Jetta was BOG in the weekend’s VFL game.
- Expect Meredith, White and TDL to make the emergency list.
RICHMOND v NORTH MELBOURNE
Richmond
B: Chris Newman, Will Thursfield, David Astbury
HB: Shane Tuck, Brett Deledio, Daniel Connors
C: Jeromey Webberley, Ben Cousins, Shane Edwards
HF: Matt White, Jack Riewoldt, Richard Tambling
F: Robin Nahas, Tyrone Vickery, Andrew Collins
Foll: Angus Graham, Trent Cotchin, Dustin Martin
I/C (from): Kelvin Moore, Jake King, Mitch Farmer, Luke McGuane, Dean Polo, Jayden Post, Alex Rance
In: McGuane, Polo, Tambling, Rance, Post, Cousins
Out: Daniel Jackson (suspension), Ben Nason (soreness), Ben Griffiths (shoulder)
- A few forced changes for Richmond after a big win is disappointing, although it at least makes room for the returning Cousins and Tambling. Post will also definitely play, suggesting that McGuane, Polo and Rance are likely to make the emergency list if no other changes are to be made.
- Webberley has also been named which is very good news for his owners.
North Melbourne
B: Michael Firrito, Scott Thompson, Brady Rawlings
HB: Robbie Tarrant, Nathan Grima, Daniel Pratt
C: Leigh Adams, Brent Harvey, Ryan Bastinac
HF: Lindsay Thomas, Lachlan Hansen, Ben Warren
F: Daniel Wells, Todd Goldstein, Sam Wright
Foll: Hamish McIntosh, Andrew Swallow, Levi Greenwood
I/C (from): Ed Lower, Ben Cunnington, Gavin Urquhart, Aaron Edwards, Matt Campbell, Jamie Macmillan, Leigh Harding
In: Harding, Edwards, Grima, Urquhart, Macmillan
Out: Drew Petrie (foot), Cruize Garlett (calf)
New: Jamie Macmillan (Oakleigh Chargers)
- Two outs for North, one of which is Petrie who played a week too early and re-injured his foot AGAIN, meaning he will now miss the remainder of the year. I expect Edwards will step into his forward spot this week when the final teams are named.
- Jamie Macmillan (Not to be confused with Jamie Macmillan-Pittard from Port) has been named for his debut and is a good chance to play. He was the 37th pick in last years draft and is a medium sized midfielder. In the TAC cup last year he averaged 19 disposals and 4 tackles per game whilst playing for the Oakleigh chargers. Then, when playing for Vic Metro in the carnival, he averaged 15 disposals and 5 tackles a game - the best in the squad. He has a good sized body which should be capable of competing at AFL level, although I’d want to see him in action before trading him in.
FREMANTLE v MELBOURNE
Fremantle
B: Dylan Roberton, Alex Silvagni, Kepler Bradley
HB: Matthew de Boer, Luke McPharlin, Roger Hayden
C: Garrick Ibbotson, David Mundy, Nathan Fyfe
HF: Jay van Berlo, Matthew Pavlich, Stephen Hill
F: Adam McPhee, Michael Johnson, Hayden Ballantyne
Foll: Aaron Sandilands, Ryan Crowley, Paul Duffield
I/C (from): Anthony Morabito, Clancee Pearce, Chris Tarrant, Rhys Palmer, Nick Suban, Greg Broughton, Paul Hasleby
In: McPharlin, Broughton, Fyfe, Tarrant
Out: Tim Ruffles
- Some great ins for Freo, with all of McPharlin, Broughton, Fyfe and Tarrant best-22 players. Their inclusion will obviously see a few players missing out, with Pearce, Suban and Hasleby the ones most likely. Certainly keep an eye on the final teams on Friday night if you have any of these guys!
Melbourne
B: Colin Garland, Jared Rivers, Clint Bartram
HB: Jordie McKenzie, James Frawley, Cameron Bruce
C: Jamie Bennell, Nathan Jones, Brad Green
HF: Lynden Dunn, Jack Watts, Tom Scully
F: Colin Sylvia, Matthew Bate, Liam Jurrah
Foll: Mark Jamar, Brent Moloney, Aaron Davey
I/C (from): Joel Macdonald, Kyle Cheney, Paul Johnson, Rohan Bail, Addam Maric, Matthew Warnock, Cale Morton
In: Rohan Bail, Matthew Warnock, Addam Maric, Cale Morton
Out: Jack Trengove (hip)
- A few good inclusions for Melbourne, but one very big out in Trengove - this will certainly hurt plenty of teams, including Melbourne!
- Morton and Bail are named on the bench and a good chance to make the cut with Macdonald, Cheney and Johnson all skating on thin ice.
Teams: Round 15 - RIEWOLDT’S BACK!!
PORT ADELAIDE v COLLINGWOOD
Port Adelaide
B: Paul Stewart, Alipate Carlile, Nick Salter
HB: Steven Salopek, Troy Chaplin, Matt Thomas
C: Kane Cornes, Domenic Cassisi, Travis Boak
HF: Justin Westhoff, Jay Schulz, David Rodan
F: Jackson Trengove, Daniel Motlop, Brett Ebert
Foll: Dean Brogan, Danyle Pearce, Tom Logan
I/C: Mitch Banner, Cameron Hitchcock, Matt Broadbent, Daniel Stewart
Emg: Jason Davenport, Danny Meyer, Jay Nash
In: Boak
Out: Chad Cornes (susp)
- Boak comes straight back into the team after missing just the one week.
- Chadly Cornes will miss with suspension, although the rest will likely to his withering body some good.
Collingwood
B: Heath Shaw, Simon Prestigiacomo, Leigh Brown
HB: Harry O’Brien, Tyson Goldsack, Alan Toovey
C: Sharrod Wellingham, Dane Swan, Jarryd Blair
HF: Luke Ball, Travis Cloke, John Anthony
F: Dayne Beams, Chris Dawes, Steele Sidebottom
Foll: Darren Jolly, Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas
I/C: Alan Didak, Ben Johnson, Tarkyn Lockyer, Ben Reid
Emg: Josh Fraser, Luke Rounds, Brent Macaffer
In: Sidebottom
Out: Leon Davis
- Sidebottom returns to the side, whilst Davis will miss. Whilst there is no injury listed on the team sheets, Collingwood have stated that Davis in fact has a calf injury.
- Jarryd Blair will play his second game whilst Fraser and Medhurst again miss out.
GEELONG CATS v HAWTHORN
Geelong Cats
B: Josh Hunt, Matthew Scarlett, Andrew Mackie
HB: Corey Enright, Harry Taylor, Darren Milburn
C: James Kelly, Cameron Ling, Jimmy Bartel
HF: Paul Chapman, James Podsiadly, Travis Varcoe
F: Mathew Stokes, Brad Ottens, Shannon Byrnes
Foll: Mark Blake, Joel Selwood, Gary Ablett
I/C: Joel Corey, Tom Lonergan, David Wojcinski, Mitch Duncan
Emg: Simon Hogan, Taylor Hunt, Trent West
In: Ottens, Ling, Taylor
Out: Simon Hogan, Taylor Hunt, Trent West
- Ottens makes his usual late-season return before finals, however do not consider him for your team! He is soooo injury prone it is ridiculous!
- Ling and Taylor also return, whilst youngsters West and Hunt miss out.
Hawthorn
B: Campbell Brown, Stephen Gilham, Brent Guerra
HB: Ben Stratton, Ryan Schoenmakers, Thomas Murphy
C: Chance Bateman, Luke Hodge, Clinton Young
HF: Michael Osborne, Lance Franklin, Shaun Burgoyne
F: Carl Peterson, Jarryd Roughead, Cyril Rioli
Foll: Brent Renouf, Brad Sewell, Jordan Lewis
I/C: Josh Gibson, Wayde Skipper, Grant Birchall, Xavier Ellis
Emg: Beau Muston, Jordan Lisle, Shane Savage
In: Brown, Gibson
Out: Sam Mitchell (hand), Beau Muston
- Gibson returns from his long-term hamstring injury, whilst Brown will also bolster Hawthorn’s defence.
- Muston is an unlucky casualty, whilst Mitchell should miss two weeks with a broken hand.
WEST COAST v ADELAIDE
West Coast
B: Will Schofield, Eric MacKenzie, Ashley Smith
HB: Beau Waters, Mitchell Brown, Brad Sheppard
C: Matt Rosa, Matt Priddis, Andrew Embley
HF: Andrew Strijk, Quinten Lynch, Brad Ebert
F: Dean Cox, Josh Kennedy, Mark LeCras
Foll: Nic Naitanui, Chris Masten, Adam Selwood
I/C: Scott Selwood, Brett Jones, Lewis Stevenson, Ashton Hams
Emg: Koby Stevens, Ben McKinley, Callum Wilson
In: Jones, Hams, Brown, Smith, Stevenson
Out: Ben McKinley, Beau Wilkes, Bradd Dalziell, Tom Swift, Patrick McGinnity
New: Ashley Smith
- West Coast are finally making a statement at selection with plenty of experienced players to miss, including Swift and McKinley.
- Hams finally returns, whilst Stevenson is also a good inclusion to plenty of midfield benches.
- Smith is named to make his debut - he is a very fast attacking defender who has been playing WAFL seniors for a while. He averages 13 disposals and could be a reasonable target, although i prefer his teammate Strijk, who will play his third game.
Adelaide
B: Graham Johncock, Ben Rutten, Scott Stevens
HB: Michael Doughty, Phil Davis, Brad Symes
C: Bernie Vince, Patrick Dangerfield, Rory Sloane
HF: Ricky Henderson, Taylor Walker, Nathan van Berlo
F: Jason Porplyzia, Kurt Tippett, Richard Douglas
Foll: Ivan Maric, Scott Thompson, Simon Goodwin
I/C: Brent Reilly, Jonathon Griffin, Tony Armstrong, Matthew Jaensch
Emg: Myke Cook, Jack Gunston, James Sellar
No change
- As advertised, no change at Adelaide, meaning McLeod, Knights and Bock will continue to miss. Griffen is a chance to be a late withdrawal, although he did pass a fitness test today.
BRISBANE LIONS v ST KILDA
Brisbane Lions
B: Tom Collier, Daniel Merrett, Ashley McGrath
HB: Daniel Rich, Joel Patfull, Travis Johnstone
C: Jared Brennan, Tom Rockliff, Justin Sherman
HF: James Polkinghorne, Brent Staker, Luke Power
F: Todd Banfield, Brendan Fevola, Aaron Cornelius
Foll: Mitchell Clark, Michael Rischitelli, Simon Black
I/C: Matthew Leuenberger, Pearce Hanley, Jack Redden, Amon Buchanan
Emg: James Hawksley, Cheynee Stiller, Jesse O’Brien
In: Hanley, Fevola
Out: Sam Sheldon, Jesse O’Brien
- Fevola will return, although question-marks remain as to which Fev we will see. Brown is apparently another week away.
- O’Brien is omitted after debuting last week against Carlton.
St Kilda
B: Brett Peake, Jason Blake, Sam Gilbert
HB: Jarryn Geary, Sam Fisher, James Gwilt
C: Brendon Goddard, Nick Dal Santo, Farren Ray
HF: Clinton Jones, Justin Koschitzke, Adam Schneider
F: Andrew McQualter, Nick Riewoldt, Stephen Milne
Foll: Michael Gardiner, Lenny Hayes, Leigh Montagna
I/C: Sean Dempster, Jack Steven, Ben McEvoy, Zac Dawson
Emg: Alistair Smith, Adam Pattison, Jason Gram
In: Riewoldt, Koschitzke
Out: Adam Pattison, Rhys Stanley
- The biggest news of the week is the return of Riewoldt - it has been heavily hyped and rumoured that he would return, but still it is great to see his name finally on the teams sheet. The Saints have intimated he will play a much deeper forward role for the first few weeks back, keeping him away from the harder centre-squares.
- The second twin-tower, Kosi, will also return from his ankle injury.
- Talls Stanley and Pattison make way, although rumour is that Gardiner may miss, making way for Patto.
- Gram seems not to have made it into the squad again - potentially he may line up for Sandringham on the weekend, or simply miss another week.
RICHMOND v FREMANTLE
Richmond
B: Chris Newman, Will Thursfield, David Astbury
HB: Shane Tuck, Brett Deledio, Daniel Connors
C: Mitch Farmer, Daniel Jackson, Shane Edwards
HF: Matt White, Jack Riewoldt, Ben Nason
F: Richard Tambling, Ben Griffiths, Andrew Collins
Foll: Angus Graham, Trent Cotchin, Dustin Martin
I/C: Kelvin Moore, Tyrone Vickery, Jake King, Jeromey Webberley
Emg: Mitch Morton, Dean Polo, Robin Nahas
In: Webberley
Out: Ben Cousins (illness)
- As expected, Cousins is out due to his early week hospital visit.
- Webberley is a great inclusion for plenty of dream teams. Hopefully he can take a spot in the guts, just as he has been playing at Coburg.
Fremantle
B: Clancee Pearce, Alex Silvagni, Kepler Bradley
HB: Nick Suban, Ryan Crowley, Roger Hayden
C: Garrick Ibbotson, David Mundy, Anthony Morabito
HF: Jay Van Berlo, Matthew Pavlich, Stephen Hill
F: Adam McPhee, Michael Johnson, Hayden Ballantyne
Foll: Aaron Sandilands, Rhys Palmer, Paul Duffield
I/C: Dylan Roberton, Tim Ruffles, Paul Hasleby, Matt de Boer
Emg: Justin Bollenhagen, Byron Schammer, Steven Dodd
In: Tim Ruffles, Nick Suban, Clancee Pearce
Out: Michael Barlow (leg), Antoni Grover (hamstring), Nat Fyfe (concussion)
- With the huge news of Riewoldt’s return, the other huge news, albeit bad news, is the injury to Barlow, as discussed thoroughly this week on Footy Tragic. He will miss the remainder of the season. Fellow midfielder Suban will return.
- Fyfe should miss just the one week with concussion sustained in last week’s win over Port.
SYDNEY SWANS v NORTH MELBOURNE
Sydney Swans
B: Rhyce Shaw, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Nick Smith
HB: Martin Mattner, Heath Grundy, Tadhg Kennelly
C: Nick Malceski, Brett Kirk, Kieren Jack
HF: Daniel Hannebery, Ryan O’Keefe, Josh Kennedy
F: Ben McGlynn, Adam Goodes, Jarred Moore
Foll: Shane Mumford, Jude Bolton, Jarrad McVeigh
I/C (from): Paul Bevan, Trent Dennis-Lane, Lewis Johnston, Brett Meredith, Mike Pyke, Ted Richards, Patrick Veszpremi
In: Richards, Bevan, Meredith, Veszpremi, Johnston
Out: Henry Playfair (back), Craig Bird (foot)
New: Lewis Johnston
- The Sydney forward line has taken another hit with the injury to Playfair and non-showing of Bradshaw. This has led to the inclusion of debutant Lewis Johnston, the Swans first pick in the 2008 draft. He is a tall, fast leading forward, with a great set of hands. Whilst he won’t be expected to make much impact this year, he may prove a permanent replacement for Playfair with his much stronger upside.
North Melbourne
B: Michael Firrito, Scott Thompson, Brady Rawlings
HB: Sam Wright, Robbie Tarrant, Daniel Pratt
C: Leigh Adams, Brent Harvey, Ryan Bastinac
HF: Matt Campbell, Lachlan Hansen, Ben Warren
F: Daniel Wells, Drew Petrie, Lindsay Thomas
Foll: Hamish McIntosh, Andrew Swallow, Levi Greenwood
I/C (from): Ed Lower, Ben Cunnington, Todd Goldstein, Cruize Garlett, Gavin Urquhart, Leigh Harding, Scott McMahon
In: Petrie, Harding, Urquhart, Tarrant
Out: Jack Ziebell (Leg)
New: Robbie Tarrant (Mildura/Bendigo U18)
- A few good inclusions for North, with the most important being the return of Petrie from two separate broken feet.
- Robbie Tarrant is named to debut, and he has been confirmed by the club as a certain starter. He has been in good form for Werribee at CHB, the exact position he has been named for North. Like his brother, he is a very good athlete with a good set of hands and will hopefully be able to play out the season. He showed in the NAB cup he is capable of scoring between 50-70 points.
- Ziebell is out and will miss the remainder of the season with a broken leg.
MELBOURNE v ESSENDON
Melbourne
B: Jamie Bennell, Jared Rivers, Clint Bartram
HB: Colin Garland, James Frawley, Tom Scully
C: Nathan Jones, Jack Trengove, Brad Green
HF: Lynden Dunn, Jack Watts, Cameron Bruce
F: Colin Sylvia, Matthew Bate, Jordie McKenzie
Foll: Mark Jamar, Brent Moloney, Aaron Davey
I/C (from): Joel Macdonald, Kyle Cheney, Rohan Bail, Paul Johnson, Addam Maric, Neville Jetta, Liam Jurrah
In: Johnson, Sylvia, Bail, Jurrah, Maric
Out: Jack Grimes (hamstring), Jake Spencer (back)
- Several very good inclusions for Melbourne, and most importantly, Sylvia has returned - this will surely excite plenty of dream teamers.
- The other good news for Melbourne is the return of Jurrah after missing most of the season with injury - he has played a couple of good games for Casey, including a four-goal game on the weekend. Bail will also return to the side after some good early DT form.
- Grimes is out of the side with a hamstring injury which will likely set him back a few weeks.
Essendon
B: Andrew Welsh, Cale Hooker, Heath Hocking
HB: Mark McVeigh, Michael Hurley, Kyle Reimers
C: Leroy Jetta, Jobe Watson, Courtenay Dempsey
HF: Brent Stanton, Scott Gumbleton, Angus Monfries
F: Alwyn Davey, Jay Neagle, David Zaharakis
Foll: Patrick Ryder, Jason Winderlich, Ben Howlett
I/C (from): Ricky Dyson, Brent Prismall, Sam Lonergan, Tom Bellchambers, Travis Colyer, Nathan Lovett-Murray, Jake Melksham
In: Dyson, Dempsey, Monfries, Howlett, Neagle, Colyer
Out: Henry Slattery (soreness), Tyson Slattery , Michael Quinn
- Howlett is back - great news for all those depleted midfields in DT world, whilst Colyer also brings a simliar boost.
- Essendon will be very happy to include Dyson, Dempsey and Monfries, whilst Hille is another 1-2 weeks away.
- Tyson Slattery will miss after debuting last week, whilst no-one should be surprised that Quinn has been omitted.
CARLTON v WESTERN BULLDOGS
Carlton
B: Aaron Joseph, Bret Thornton, Michael Jamison
HB: Andrew Walker, Paul Bower, Jordan Russell
C: Andrew Carrazzo, Kade Simpson, Bryce Gibbs
HF: Jeff Garlett, Setanta O’hAilpin, Ryan Houlihan
F: Marc Murphy, Lachie Henderson, Eddie Betts
Foll: Sam Jacobs, Heath Scotland, Chris Judd
I/C (from): Dennis Armfield, Shaun Grigg, Shaun Hampson, Kane Lucas, Mitch Robinson, Simon Wiggins, Chris Yarran
In: Wiggins, Bower, Lucas
Out: Nil
- Bower is back - again - but can he stay back this time is the question. If you have him, feel relieved and stop have thoughts of trading anyway.
- Lucas also returns onto the extended bench, although i don’t like his chances of making the final cut.
Western Bulldogs
B: Jarrod Harbrow, Brian Lake, Ryan Hargrave
HB: Robert Murphy, Dale Morris, Lindsay Gilbee
C: Ryan Griffen, Matthew Boyd, Liam Picken
HF: Shaun Higgins, Brad Johnson, Brennan Stack
F: Jarrad Grant, Barry Hall, Daniel Giansiracusa
Foll: Ben Hudson, Daniel Cross, Adam Cooney
I/C: Nathan Eagleton, Andrejs Everitt, Andrew Hooper, Jordan Roughead, Callan Ward, Tom Williams, Easton Wood
In: Williams, Stack, Everitt, Roughead, Hooper, Eagleton
Out: Mitch Hahn (hamstring), Will Minson (ankle), Sam J. Reid (shoulder)
New: Andrew Hooper (rookie)
- Plenty of changes at the Dogs with Hahn and Minson set to miss a couple of matches each and Reid to miss the year.
- Amongst the inclusions are Roughead, who should play, and Hooper - a young debutant off the club’s rookie list. Hooper is one of the smallest players in the league, standing at just 172cm. However, this doesn’t effect his attack on the ball, averaging over 20 possessions, 5 marks and 3.5 tackles per game in the TAC cup - some of the best stats of all participants. He can be picked as a defender, although i worry about picking him for his job security.
Teams - Round 14
Round 13 (The Saga Concludes)
St Kilda
B: Steven Baker, Jason Blake, Sam Gilbert
HB: Jarryn Geary, Sam Fisher, James Gwilt
C: Brendon Goddard, Nick Dal Santo, Farren Ray
HF: Clinton Jones, Justin Koschitzke, Adam Schneider
F: Brett Peake, Ben McEvoy, Stephen Milne
Foll: Michael Gardiner, Lenny Hayes, Leigh Montagna
I/C: Robert Eddy, Jack Steven, Andrew McQualter, Rhys Stanley
Emg: Sean Dempster, Zac Dawson, Adam Pattison
In: Steven
Out: Raphael Clarke (hamstring)
- Steven returns for his second game of the year, which was a significant surprise as he hasn’t been carving it up at Sandringham. He did however make a name for himself in the 2008 NAB cup by kicking the winning goal against Geelong - perhaps they want to see whether he is up to competing with the big boys as through the pre-season he seemed to be a big part of their plans.
Geelong Cats
B: Darren Milburn, Matthew Scarlett, Josh Hunt
HB: Andrew Mackie, Harry Taylor, Corey Enright
C: James Kelly, Cameron Ling, Jimmy Bartel
HF: Mathew Stokes, James Podsiadly, Shannon Byrnes
F: Travis Varcoe, Cameron Mooney, Steve Johnson
Foll: Mark Blake, Gary Ablett, Joel Selwood
I/C: David Wojcinski, Taylor Hunt, Trent West, Tom Lonergan
Emg: Mitchell Duncan, Ryan Gamble, Simon Hogan
In: Mooney, Scarlett
Out: Paul Chapman (hamstring), Simon Hogan
- HUUUUUUGE NEWS!! Chappy’s hamstring has finally gone ping! Devastating news for those who own him, as this will unfortunately put him out for 3-4 weeks…
- Scarlett and Mooney return as expected, however question marks will still surround Mooney until he actually lines up.
SYDNEY SWANS v COLLINGWOOD
Sydney Swans
B: Rhyce Shaw, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Nick Smith
HB: Martin Mattner, Heath Grundy, Tadhg Kennelly
C: Nick Malceski, Brett Kirk, Kieren Jack
HF: Ryan O’Keefe, Adam Goodes, Josh Kennedy
F: Daniel Hannebery, Daniel Bradshaw, Jesse White
Foll: Shane Mumford, Jude Bolton, Jarrad McVeigh
I/C: Paul Bevan, Craig Bird, Ben McGlynn, Mike Pyke
Emg: Gary Rohan, Patrick Veszpremi, Lewis Jetta
In: Shaw, Bradshaw
Out: Patrick Veszpremi, Gary Rohan
- Shaw and Bradshaw are both good inclusions for the Swans, although Rohan’s dropping is a big blow to many - especially for those who own both him and Chapman.
- Disappointing to see Veszpremi dropped as he didn’t actually perform too badly last week.
Collingwood
B: Heath Shaw, Simon Prestigiacomo, Leigh Brown
HB: Harry O’Brien, Tyson Goldsack, Alan Toovey
C: Sharrod Wellingham, Dane Swan, Steele Sidebottom
HF: Luke Ball, Travis Cloke, Brad Dick
F: Dayne Beams, Chris Dawes, Leon Davis
Foll: Darren Jolly, Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas
I/C: Alan Didak, Ben Johnson, Tarkyn Lockyer, Ben Reid
Emg: Josh Fraser, Brent Macaffer, Jaxson Barham
In: Johnson, Didak, Ball, Goldsack, Dawes
Out: Josh Fraser, Paul Medhurst, Nick Maxwell (calf), Brent Macaffer, Jaxson Barham
- Plenty of changes for the Pies - there are several big ins with Johnson, Didak and Ball all returning from injury.
- Plenty of big outs too though - clearly the Pies are fed up with the poor form of Medhurst and Fraser - both are clearly out of form and out of favour - look to trade them if they are holding a spot in your team.
ADELAIDE v MELBOURNE
Adelaide
B: Graham Johncock, Ben Rutten, Scott Stevens
HB: Michael Doughty, Phil Davis, Matthew Jaensch
C: Brad Symes, Simon Goodwin, David Mackay
HF: Scott Thompson, Kurt Tippett, Nathan van Berlo
F: Richard Douglas, Taylor Walker, Ricky Henderson
Foll: Ivan Maric, Patrick Dangerfield, Brent Reilly
I/C (from): Jonathon Griffin, Bernie Vince, James Sellar, Rory Sloane, Jared Petrenko, Tony Armstrong, Jason Porplyzia
In: Sellar, Vince, Jaensch, Phil Davis
Out: Nathan Bock (groin)
- Bock makes way again, whilst a raft of younger crows come onto the extended bench.
- Jaensch and Davis are certainties to play, named on the field, whilst there is little doubting Vince will also get a game. Perhaps the out of form Griffin and Porplyzia will make way, however those with Armstrong will be sweating it out as his spot has already been proven insecure once this year.
Melbourne
B: Clint Bartram, Matthew Warnock, James Frawley
HB: Colin Garland, Jared Rivers, Jack Grimes
C: Brad Green, Jack Trengove, Cameron Bruce
HF: Cale Morton, Matthew Bate, Tom Scully
F: Neville Jetta, Brad Miller, Aaron Davey
Foll: Mark Jamar, Brent Moloney, Nathan Jones
I/C (from): Joel Macdonald, Jordie McKenzie, Jack Watts, Lynden Dunn, Jamie Bennell, Kyle Cheney, Jake Spencer
In: Macdonald, Cheney, Spencer, Bennell
Out: Jordan Gysberts
- Another huge out in Gysberts - many weren’t worried trading him in after two huge first games, but his third game was well below par, leaving him to feel the wrath of the selection panel.
- The other big news is the non-inclusion of Colin Sylvia - despite nearly making it to play a fortnight ago, he still seems not to have recovered from his toe injury. Maybe he should have a chat with Daniel Chick and just chop the bloody thing off!!
